IT Specialist — BuffSci

Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School • Buffalo, NY

Position Summary

The IT Coordinator provides building-level technology support across BuffSci campuses while contributing to network-wide IT operations. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, this role keeps devices, networks, telecom, and classroom systems running reliably so staff and students can teach and learn without interruption.

Terms of Employment
  • Starting Salary: $53,000 (bachelor's degree) Range: $53,000-$60,000
  • Contract: 12  months

  • Primary Location: Buffalo, NY
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computers, printers, Smartboard, phones, and classroom technology.
  • Resolve hardware, software, network, telecom, and user-access issues in person, remotely, and through the ticketing system.
  • Support network infrastructure (Cisco, Meraki, UniFi, TP-Link) including LAN, WLAN, switches, and access points.
  • Run, terminate, test, and label Cat6+ Ethernet as needed.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access across Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, ClassLink, Mosyle, Intune, GoGuardian, Adobe, and Access System (2N, UniFi, Odyssey), and Zoom Phone and Meeting System.
  • Maintain inventory, perform preventative maintenance, and support cybersecurity tools and KnowBe4 awareness training.
  • Provide event and after-hours support during testing windows, school events, and emergencies as needed.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems, tools, and technologies as organizational needs evolve.
  • Collaborate with the Director of IT and team to improve technology tools, software, and user experience through best practices.
  • Collaborate on network-wide deployments, integrations, and rotating monthly IT team on-site meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Proven experience as an IT Specialist, Technician, or in a similar support role
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, network, and telecom
  • Professional communication with staff, students, leadership, and vendors
  • Familiarity with K–12 platforms: Google Workspace for Education, SIS, device management, content filtering, ticketing
  • Understanding of student data privacy, cybersecurity, and acceptable use policies
  • K–12 school district experience strongly preferred.
Recommended Certifications

Google IT Support Professional, CompTIA A+, Amplified Admin (Chrome, L1/L2, Security), CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA, and CompTIA Security+

Performance Evaluation

Quarterly and annual reviews by the Director of IT. Performance is measured by ticket responsiveness, quality of support, communication, reliability, KPI progress, and 360° feedback from leadership and staff.
