Logan Health Whitefish's laboratory is looking for a skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist to be part of their team!

Where we're located:

Our laboratory is located at Logan Health Whitefish is a 25-bed critical access hospital located in the scenic ski resort town of Whitefish, Montana. We are in the heart of the Flathead Valley, which offers an endless array of outdoor recreation, skiing, hiking and biking trails, whitewater rafting, and the breathtaking Glacier National Park. If you love the outdoor lifestyle, this is the place for you!

Seasonal Position Details:

  • Full-Time work schedule required for no less than 13-week period

  • 15% Premium (Seasonal differential)

  • Additional evening and weekend shift differential pay

  • 401(k) Eligible

  • Fitness center membership discount - $29.75 per month!

  • $1,000 Seasonal Bonus paid after 30 days in position (must stay 60 days to keep)

  • $1,000 Seasonal Bonus paid after 60 days in position (must stay full 13 weeks to keep)

  • $2,000 Seasonal Completion Bonus (after verification by hiring manager that all shifts met for the 13 weeks)

  • No Health Benefits offered

Seasonal Minimum Qualification:

  • Seasonal have 2 years applicable CLS experience required.

What you'll be doing:

This position performs laboratory procedures and evaluates the accuracy and validity of patient test results. Performs, monitors and evaluates quality control for all tests. Participates in quality management studies and performance improvement projects in a variety of departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related science required.

  • Montana state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license

  • Minimum of 2 years related CLS experience required.

  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.

  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Performs clinical patient testing using a variety of automated and non-automated technologies. Stays current with and follows lab procedures, continually evaluates specimen integrity, patient/specimen identification, instrument function, reviews values to assure quality results and practices good lab technique at every stage. Requests clarification and assistance as needed.

  • Participates in Quality Control (QC) and Quality Management (QM) Performance Improvement (PI) activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting of results. Monitors and evaluates QC for all test results according to established protocols, provides documentation and Meditech comments as required, participates in QM studies in a variety of departments, and contributes to improvement of operations and processes.

  • Provides organized, legible documentation of activities, communicates effectively with coworkers to assure uninterrupted resulting of tests and provides quality customer service and patient care. Contributes to a functional and positive staff culture.

  • Performs triaging and organizing of work and work area for best flow and utilizes effective decision-making skills. Works efficiently as a professional, handles difficult situations with specimens, identifies and troubleshoots problems, seeks and considers alternative solutions and requests assistance when appropriate.

  • Performs accreditation-related tasks. Performs competencies assigned via CAP Competency Program and performs Proficiency Testing assigned by each department leader.

  • Maintains competency in computer skills. Accurately orders and cancels tests, verifies results and adds comments to patient record per department procedure. Utilizes the procedure/policy database.

  • Performs testing in a timely manner and efficiently handles workload and workflow. Sets priorities, organizes, runs routine, timed, and STAT work appropriately. Avoids batching specimens in areas of large volume and accurately hands off work to others at shift change.

  • Calls and documents Critical Values according to Laboratory policy.

  • Maintains laboratory equipment through preventative maintenance and troubleshooting according to established protocols.

  • May contribute to procedures and policies and assist with writing and revisions by leadership.

  • Trains new employees/students and participates in additional projects.

  • The above essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Other duties may be assigned similar to the above consistent with knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Not all of the duties may be assigned to a position.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership.

Shift:

Evening Shift - 10 Hours (United States of America)

Schedule: Full-time hours for 13 weeks, working 10-hour evening shifts (typically 3:00 PM - 1:30 AM), totaling 70 hours per two-week pay period.

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
