Help shape the landscape and arboretum experience at Buffalo Trace Distillery, a National Historic Landmark and destination visited by thousands of guests each year. As Homeplace Horticultural Supervisor, you’ll lead a hands-on grounds team, care for a diverse plant collection, and help keep the property looking its best through every season. You’ll also have the opportunity to support educational programming and the distillery’s pursuit of botanical garden accreditation.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead, train, schedule, and inspect the grounds team, ensuring high standards for horticultural practices, safety, and daily work.
  • Maintain the health of the plant collection, including accurate plant records, database information, and labeling.
  • Plan and execute seasonal color, landscape improvements, and enhancements across the Homeplace and arboretum.
  • Support garden and arboretum tours, public education programs, and botanical garden accreditation efforts.
  • Partner with the Homeplace Planner/Coordinator and management on SOPs, work orders, scheduling, contractors, events, holiday setup, and building maintenance.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of supervisory or management experience in horticulture.
  • Strong knowledge of plants, ornamental horticulture, and plant culture.

Preferred:

  • Associates or bachelor's degree in Horticulture or relative field
  • Experience managing plant collections and using plant collection database software.
  • Experience supporting public gardens, arboreta, educational programs, or botanical garden accreditation.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform hands-on horticultural work.
