Job description

Summary
You will serve as a FUL-Custodial MVO (Seasonal) At Jimmy Carter National Historical Park.
The typical season is October through March but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: October 4,2026.

Duties
Help
As a Custodial Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator), you will perform the following duties:
  • Scrubs, strips, waxes, and polishes floors using heavy powered scrubbers and buffers.
  • Adjusts, cleans and oils cleaning machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments on them.
  • Washes and replaces blinds and washes ceiling fixtures and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds.
  • Moves heavy furniture, supplies and equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains linoleum, wood, marble, and various kinds of floor, wall and ceiling surfaces.
  • Removes stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
  • Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes oil, hydraulic fluid, grease, and other spilled liquids.
  • Operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, etc.) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites.

Physical Demands: Moderately heavy physical effort is required when: using ladder and scaffolds to clean walls, ceilings, windows, ceiling fixtures, etc.; operating powered equipment; removing cans of or other containers of trash; and occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. Is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Occasionally works outdoors in possible inclement weather conditions and/or extreme temperatures.

  • You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.

There is no substitution of education for experience for Federal Wage System (FWS) positions.

This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity for this position is: Within 60 miles of Plains, Georgia. You must provide proof of residency within the defined vicinity (e.g. mortgage or property deed, lease/rental agreement, utility bill, insurance policy, etc.). This position is restricted to preference eligibles only (Veterans 5 U.S.C.& 3310). Applications will be accepted from non-preference applicants. A Recruitment Incentive May Be Authorized for a newly selected employee when appointed to a permanent, temporary, or term position. Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision.
If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.
The limit can be exceeded by working multiple temporary seasonal positions that result in a combined total greater than 1040 hours. The limit also can be exceeded by working a single temporary seasonal appointment that exceeds 1040 hours, unless granted an exception by OPM.
Employment may be terminated at any time due to fluctuations in funding levels, project needs, employee performance, or other considerations.
