Job description

Monday-Friday; 9:00am-2:00pm but could fluctuate to 8:00-1:00 depending on student needs

Position will work on-site at University of Alabama- Birmingham.

United Ability is an organization that provides a variety of services to individuals with disabilities.  We are currently seeking candidates to join our team as a Work Instructor to facilitate the training and integration of students with disabilities into community employment. The instruction, coaching and support provided will equip students with the necessary skills for employment.  If you are someone who has a passion for helping people, someone who is energetic, and someone who is career-oriented and looking for more than just a “job”, then you have found your calling.  Each day working with these individuals and being a part of their future employment goals will allow you to see how much your work matters! 

Collaborating with other team members, you will:

  • Provide job coaching and individualized support to students at host businesses worksite rotation.
  • Communicates with Project SEARCH Instructor, family members, employers, state agencies as it relates to students training and students success at job.
  • Perform specific job analysis, task analysis and job matching activities.
  • Attend training provided by school personnel to become knowledgeable of strategies and current practices in the field of supported employment.
  • Train students in grooming, hygiene, communication, interviewing and behavior as it relates to successful employment.
  • Submits and completes required paperwork.

Applicant general qualifications include:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous experience supporting youth and adults with disabilities preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, positive attitude, sound judgment, and strong decision making skills
