Getting a job in search engine optimization (SEO) can be competitive, but building skills in keyword research, analytics, and familiarity with tools like Google Analytics and SEMrush can improve prospects. Entry-level roles may require some experience or certifications, but many employers value practical knowledge and a strong understanding of digital marketing principles.

Can you get a search engine optimization job with no experience?

Entry-level SEO jobs often do not require prior experience and focus on skills like keyword research, content optimization, and familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics. Gaining certifications or building a portfolio through personal projects can improve chances of securing an SEO position without experience.

SEO professionals work closely with content creators to ensure that written materials are optimized for relevant keywords, user intent, and search engine guidelines. They also collaborate with web developers to implement technical improvements, such as site speed enhancements, structured data, and mobile optimization. Regular communication and teamwork are essential, as SEO recommendations often need to be balanced with creative goals and technical feasibility. This cross-functional collaboration helps ensure that both content and website infrastructure support higher search rankings and a better user experience.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a search engine optimization (SEO) specialist?

To thrive as a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialist, you need a solid grasp of keyword research, on-page and off-page optimization, analytics, and content strategy, often supported by a marketing degree or relevant certification. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and experience with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress are typically expected. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret data and coordinate with writers and web developers. These skills ensure improved website visibility, increased organic traffic, and measurable business growth in a competitive digital landscape.

About the Role
TransPerfect is seeking a Content Marketing Lead to drive measurable marketing performance through high-impact content strategy and execution. This role is focused on generating awareness, leads, and pipeline across a diverse global portfolio of solutions, industries, and marketing teams.
This individual will develop and execute a content strategy that supports campaigns, product and solution launches, vertical programs, and digital performance channels-especially SEO, SEM, paid media, and PR/media syndication. Equally important, this role will help establish the content marketing discipline across the organization, creating frameworks, setting standards, and mentoring content contributors across product lines and geographies.
The ideal candidate will be hands-on, but also strategic and cross-functional-able to understand business needs across multiple divisions and translate those into content that drives measurable outcomes in lead generation, digital discoverability, and funnel progression.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own the strategy for marketing content that drives traffic, engagement, conversion, and pipeline through campaign and digital channels.
  • Create content themes, messaging frameworks, and editorial plans aligned to global go-to-market priorities across multiple verticals and product lines.
  • Build and manage an SEO-driven content roadmap, incorporating keyword research, buyer intent, and performance insights from demand gen and digital teams.
  • Write and edit content across formats including product and solution collateral, SEO blogs, landing pages, nurture flows, gated assets, and video scripts.
  • Produce or guide content for webinars, virtual events, digital campaigns, and paid placements.
  • Collaborate on sales enablement assets such as eBrochures, one-pagers, and pitch decks.
  • Use data and analytics to track performance (organic traffic, content engagement, lead volume, MQL/SAL quality) and continuously refine content strategy.
  • Drive content syndication and thought leadership distribution through earned and paid media placements, newsletters, and partner channels.
  • Mentor junior writers, marketing contributors, and cross-functional marketers on content strategy, SEO alignment, and campaign storytelling.
  • Develop scalable templates, writing standards, and editorial workflows to enable quality and speed across regions and business units.
  • Act as a liaison across product marketing, campaign managers, digital teams, and SEO/SEM teams to keep content aligned and optimized.

Why Join TransPerfect?

  • Experience creating content aligned to funnel stages and persona needs.
  • Ability to manage editorial calendars and contribute to multiple campaigns simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, HubSpot/Marketo, Salesforce, CMS platforms, and SEO tools.

Preferred:
