Briggs Library is seeking part-time, temporary reference and instruction assistance for weekend, evening (5-9 p.m.), and/or daytime shifts for up to 16 hours per week. This library faculty position supports the research needs of students, faculty, staff, and community members by providing guidance in locating resources, navigating collections, and using library services. Join a collaborative team dedicated to inspiring academic excellence, creative scholarship, and lifelong curiosity in a welcoming and resource-rich environment. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota. The Hilton M. Briggs Library inspires academic excellence, collaborative endeavor, creative scholarship, student engagement, and lifelong curiosity. Serving all SDSU academic disciplines, the library is a hub for research, learning, preservation, and discovery-empowering the intellectual and creative life of the communities it serves. Its extensive collections include approximately 680,000 bound volumes, over 600,000 government documents, and 66,700 electronic journals. Reference librarians provide expert research assistance, and the library offers a variety of collaborative and individual workspaces, from classrooms and study rooms to quiet areas, couches, and tables. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide in-person, chat, e-mail and phone reference service on weekends and/or evenings. Assist with library instruction and other tasks and projects as needed. Provide guidance for student employees. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library and/or Information Science.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Previous reference experience
  • Previous academic library experience
