SDR companies are organizations that specialize in providing Sales Development Representative (SDR) services to other businesses. These companies help generate leads, qualify prospects, and set appointments for sales teams, allowing businesses to focus more on closing deals. By outsourcing the SDR function, businesses can scale their sales efforts faster and more efficiently without the need to hire and train in-house teams. SDR companies often use a combination of outreach strategies such as cold calling, emailing, and social selling to identify and engage potential customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales development representative (SDR), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Development Representative (SDR), you need strong communication skills, resilience, and a foundational understanding of sales principles, typically supported by a bachelor's degree or relevant experience. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software like Salesforce and sales engagement tools such as Outreach or HubSpot is common in this role. Outstanding SDRs demonstrate persistence, active listening, and the ability to quickly build rapport with potential clients. These skills and tools are crucial for effectively generating leads, nurturing prospects, and driving revenue growth for the organization.

What are the main challenges faced by sales development representatives (SDRs) in companies, and how can job seekers prepare for them?

One of the main challenges SDRs face is consistently generating high-quality leads in a competitive market. The role often involves overcoming frequent rejections and maintaining motivation while reaching out to prospects through calls, emails, and social media. Job seekers can prepare by developing strong communication skills, learning effective research techniques, and becoming comfortable with sales tools like CRMs. Building resilience and a positive attitude toward feedback are also important for long-term success in this fast-paced environment.

This position is designed for someone who wants to break into technology sales and gain hands-on experience. Previous tech sales or SaaS experience is not required.

You will work closely with company leadership to identify prospective customers, introduce them to our software, generate interest, and schedule qualified product demonstrations.

We are looking for someone who is confident communicating with people, coachable, dependable, persistent, and excited to learn sales, technology, and SaaS.

Responsibilities

  • Speak with business owners and other decision-makers.
  • Qualify potential customers based on their needs and interest.
  • Schedule qualified product demonstrations and sales meetings.
  • Follow up with interested prospects.
  • Maintain accurate prospect and outreach information in our CRM or sales tracking system.
  • Learn the product and confidently explain its core features and benefits.

  • Meet agreed-upon outreach and lead-generation goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable speaking with new people by phone, video, email, and messaging.
  • Professional, dependable, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Coachable and comfortable receiving feedback.
  • Basic computer and internet proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently in a primarily remote environment.
  • Must live within reasonable traveling distance of Hyattsville, Maryland, or have reliable transportation to Hyattsville when occasional in-person meetings or training are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some college education or a college degree.
  • Previous customer service, retail, hospitality, or sales experience.
  • Experience in the beauty or wellness industry, including salons, barbershops, spas, nail salons, or related businesses.
  • Previous exposure to technology, software, startups, or SaaS companies.
  • Familiarity with CRM or lead-generation tools.
  • Experience using LinkedIn or social media for professional networking.
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar platforms.
  • Interest in technology, entrepreneurship, SaaS, AI, or digital products.

Compensation

  • $16.00 per hour
  • Plus commission based on sales performance and qualified opportunities
  • Opportunity for increased responsibility and professional growth as the company expands.

Who This Role Is For

This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking their first role in technology sales, including recent graduates, college students, career changers, or candidates coming from customer service, retail, hospitality, beauty and wellness, or other customer-facing industries.

You do not need to already know how to sell software. We are looking for someone with strong communication skills, professionalism, curiosity, work ethic, and the willingness to learn.
