Operating within Motion's Agile Release Trains (ARTs), this role creates, defines, and fosters an environment of transparency and continuous improvement, helping Agile teams achieve their KPIs, increase speed and agility, and enhance overall outcomes and quality. This role applies industry best practices and relevant metrics/KPIs and implements standards and procedures to optimize and accelerate software delivery across scrum teams.

  • Prepares teams for and actively participates in PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt events within a Scaled Agile (SAFe) Agile Release Train.
  • Facilitates team events, including the daily stand-up, iteration planning, iteration review, iteration retrospective, and other Agile ceremonies, for both co-located and distributed/remote teams.
  • Guides the team in establishing normalized estimates, and coaches the team in estimating and forecasting features and capabilities.
  • Partners with Product Owners and business stakeholders in managing the backlog and guiding the team, while facilitating a healthy team dynamic concerning priorities, sustainability, and scope.
  • Tracks and reports team flow, predictability, and quality metrics using Azure DevOps (or comparable ALM tooling); uses data to drive retrospective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates and addresses external and internal requests to the development team; represents the team in Scrum of Scrums and ART sync events.
  • Adapts existing scrum policies with independent judgment to ensure quality and timeliness.
  • Mentors Scrum Master I peers and contributes to Scrum Master community-of-practice development.
  • Develops a deep understanding of Agile and SAFe principles and exercises judgment in applying defined processes and practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong skills in servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of well-documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with technical teams, Product Owners, and business stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of Agile methodologies and the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), including PI cadence, ART events, and lean-agile principles.
  • Working knowledge of Agile lifecycle management tooling (Azure DevOps preferred) and team-level flow, predictability, and quality metrics.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Experience leading or mentoring other scrum masters (e.g., Scrum of Scrums, community of practice) preferred.
  • Experience facilitating Agile ceremonies for distributed/remote teams.
  • Experience communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills.
