Job description

Department: Surgery
Shift/schedule: Full Time (40 hrs/wk), 7:00am-3:30pm M-F, no weekends, no holidays, call is required
GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. The Surgical Technician II assists in patient care activities and performs Surgical Technician duties in the scrub role. Works to decontaminate instruments as needed. Assists the RN with circulating duties as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Graduate of a Certified Surgical Technologist program required
• Working knowledge of medical terminology required
Licensure:
• CST or TS-C required
• BLS within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
• Operating Room scrub tech experience preferred.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Scrubs on all types of surgical procedures.
2. Identifies patient needs/physician preferences for surgical supplies, equipment and instruments, including updating physician preference lists.
3. Organizes activities to meet the surgery schedule.
4. Performs technical skills in accordance with policies and procedures.
5. Performs "on-call" duties as required.
6. Assists with orientation of new employees, and acts as preceptor for new employees.
7. Decontaminates instruments and equipment as indicated. Inspects and identifies instruments in need of repair.
8. Assists staff members in locating instruments and equipment.
9. Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment in the OR.
10. Contributes and fosters the team approach in all unit operations using positive interaction with customers.
11. Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
12. Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU's
13. Performs tasks in other peri-operative areas as needed.
