Script Writing information

Are script writers in demand?

Script writers are in demand in industries such as film, television, and digital media, especially as content creation continues to grow. Strong storytelling skills, familiarity with industry-standard software, and the ability to adapt to different genres increase employability in this field.

How do script writers typically collaborate with directors and producers during a project?

Script writers often work closely with directors and producers throughout the development and production process. After submitting a draft, writers may participate in meetings to discuss revisions based on creative direction, budget, or logistical constraints. Open communication and flexibility are essential, as scripts frequently evolve to align with the director's vision and production needs. This collaboration ensures the final script serves the story while being feasible to produce, offering writers valuable insights and professional growth.

How much do script writers get paid?

Script writers' salaries vary based on experience, industry, and project type. Entry-level writers typically earn between $30,000 and $60,000 annually, while experienced professionals can earn over $100,000 or more, especially in television and film. Freelance script writers may charge per project or per hour, depending on their reputation and the scope of work.

What is script writing?

Script writing is the process of creating written works that outline the dialogue, actions, and directions for productions such as films, television shows, plays, or video content. Script writers develop the story structure, characters, and settings, ensuring that the script conveys the intended message and emotions. This process often involves multiple drafts, collaboration with directors and producers, and adherence to specific formatting guidelines. Script writing is crucial for guiding actors and production teams in bringing a story to life.

What is the difference between Script Writing vs Screenwriting?

Script Writing is a broad term encompassing various types of scripts for different media, focusing on storytelling and dialogue. Screenwriting specifically refers to writing scripts for films and TV shows, often requiring industry-specific knowledge and formal training. While both roles involve storytelling and script development, screenwriters typically work within the film and television industry, whereas script writers may work across multiple media platforms.

Do script writers make money?

Script writers can earn varying incomes depending on their experience, the industry, and the type of projects they work on. Entry-level writers may earn less, while experienced professionals working on major films, TV shows, or with established agencies can make a substantial income. Many script writers supplement their income through multiple projects or freelance work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a script writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Script Writer, you need strong storytelling abilities, mastery of script formatting, and a solid grasp of narrative structure, often supported by a degree in film, creative writing, or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Final Draft or Celtx is typically required. Creativity, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate and accept feedback are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure compelling, well-structured scripts that meet industry standards and resonate with audiences.

What are script writing jobs?

Script writing jobs focus on creating general written content for the production of a video. This could take the form of a screenplay, copywriting for an advertisement, or even content for a video game. As a script writer, your job is to help deliver the story that your client wants to tell. To accomplish this, you decide the best way to deliver the content, create a storyboard to pitch the idea, and then write the actual script. Script writers are often given a lot of freedom when creating content, so creativity is crucial to your success. Script writing jobs also take place in a deadline-driven environment, so the ability to finish your work on time is essential.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working with investment experts, adapting content for digital channels, and using AI tools to improve quality, speed, and reach.

About the investment content team:
The investment content team helps shape how Natixis brings market views, portfolio insights, and the expertise of our affiliate managers to clients. We are building a content model that is faster to produce, easier to tailor, and more useful to the clients receiving it. That means using strong investment judgment, sharper editorial planning, and new tools, including AI, to deliver more relevant content at scale. This role will be an important part of that work.

What you will do:

  • Write clear, investment-led content across asset classes, including fixed income, equities, alternatives, private markets, and multi-asset portfolios, for financial intermediaries, institutional investors, and end clients.
  • Develop timely content on macroeconomic trends, asset allocation, manager views, portfolio construction, and investment implementation.
  • Partner with investment, portfolio consulting, product, and distribution teams to turn market views, portfolio insights, and product positioning into content clients can use.
  • Bring a clear editorial point of view to cross-functional planning, helping connect business priorities, client needs, and investment themes into stronger content ideas.
  • Create and adapt content across articles, presentations, web pages, emails, social posts, video scripts, podcasts, and infographics, with versions tailored to distinct client segments and distribution channels.
  • Use AI tools to improve research, drafting, editing, versioning, and workflow efficiency, while maintaining strong editorial judgment.
  • Optimize content for customer engagement and digital discovery, including search engine optimization, answer engine optimization, social distribution, and content marketing best practices.

What you will bring:

  • 7โ€“10 years of investment writing experience within the asset management industry, with a strong understanding of the information needs of financial advisors, intermediaries, and institutional investors.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear, compelling investment content across a range of asset classes, including fixed income, equities, alternatives, private markets, and multi-asset solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of capital markets, portfolio construction, asset allocation, and investment vehicles, with the ability to translate complex concepts into accessible and engaging messaging.
  • Experience partnering with investment teams, product specialists, and distribution teams to develop thought leadership, market commentary, sales enablement materials, and client-facing content.
  • Exceptional written, editorial, and storytelling skills, with a proven ability to tailor content for diverse audiences while maintaining investment accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Digitally savvy, with a strong understanding of content distribution channels, including social media, search, SEO, AI-enhanced search (AEO), and broader content marketing strategies.
  • Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools and workflows to enhance content development, research, repurposing, editorial review, and productivity while maintaining high editorial standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Marketing, Finance, Economics, Communications, or a related field.
  • CFA charter holder, CFA candidate, CAIA designation, Series 7, or other relevant investment credential preferred.
  • Writing and content samples required as part of the interview process.
