About Barnstorm

Barnstorm is an Emmy and VES-nominated visual effects studio based in Los Angeles and with operations in Vancouver, Montreal, Atlanta, NYC and the UK. We provide photo-realistic visual effects for a variety of episodic and select sequences in feature films. Who You Are

You are an experienced Compositing Supervisor ready to jump into an exciting studio environment with a wide variety of projects. You have demonstrated experience supervising teams in a VFX production pipeline but are comfortable working on the box when needed. You are able to work with a producer to bid shots and the ability to design workflows and estimate artist time and tasks from script, concept and/or video references. You have a strong creative vision and want to contribute those skills to a growing team and company.


What You'll Do

  • Lead a team of compositors across one or more projects, providing strong creative and technical direction, and supervising shot creation and finishing.
  • Efficiently collaborate with the VFX Supervisor, VFX Producers, Coordinators, to implement and execute clients' vision to the highest standards.
  • Participate in technical and creative calls with directors and clients.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments to assign tasks under tight deadlines and fast turnaround times.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback when reviewing shots, maintaining quality and consistency in large sequences being worked on by multiple artists.
  • Ensure quality control and compositing teams' delivery of high quality work.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems on assigned shots.
  • Strive for excellence in terms of aesthetic and technical work.
  • Take direction from Compositing Supervisors, Leads and VFX Producers to execute clients' vision to the highest standards.


What You Bring

  • 7+ years working in a VFX studio environment
  • Expert level knowledge in the following software: Nuke/NukeX, Mocha Pro, Photoshop. After Effects, CG and additional software packages are a plus.
  • Strong artistic aptitude for shot composition, design, element creation, and/or look development for sequences, as wellas well as the ability to create templates for other artists to use.
  • Extreme creativity in finding solutions to client notes and production challenges.
  • Strong ability to stay calm and positive in high pressure environments.
  • Experience with Shotgrid management software a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a VFX production environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
