GENERAL PURPOSE

As a Product Sustainability & Compliance Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring our products meet global environmental, safety, and performance standards. This cross-functional position combines engineering rigor with sustainability principles, focusing on product conformance, chemical compliance, lifecycle assessments, and stewardship frameworks. You’ll collaborate with design, supply chain, and certification teams to ensure our products are safe, sustainable, and market-ready.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Product Conformance & Testing Follow and support current and future MillerKnoll guidelines and processes that are in place. Create and execute test plans to validate product safety, quality, and performance. Maintain and update acceptance criteria based on customer feedback, competitive benchmarks, and regulatory changes. Support third party certification for electrical products (e.g., UL Listing, ETL Listing)
  • Chemical & Material Compliance Manage supplier disclosures and ensure compliance with chemical regulations (REACH, RoHS, Prop 65, Red List). Maintain banned substances and chemicals of concern lists. Support emissions certification and other environmental programs globally.
  • Sustainability & Stewardship Conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and carbon footprint analyses to identify impact reduction opportunities. Coordinate with suppliers to collect accurate sustainability data (e.g., recycled content, energy use). Support sustainable material sourcing and green product development initiatives.
  • Regulatory & Market Access Lead compliance efforts for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes. Translate regulatory requirements into actionable internal processes. Ensure global market access for new and existing products.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemical engineering, materials science, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in product compliance, sustainability engineering, or environmental data analysis.
  • Strong understanding of product testing, certification, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and documentation systems.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Skills & Abilities
  • Experience with LCA tools and sustainability reporting.
  • Familiarity with global EPR schemes and product stewardship frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Lean principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
