What is a Script Coverage job?

A Script Coverage job involves reading and analyzing screenplays, then providing a structured report that includes a summary, comments, and a recommendation for producers, agents, or executives. Coverage helps decision-makers quickly assess whether a script is worth pursuing. Readers evaluate elements like plot, structure, character development, and dialogue. These roles are common in production companies, literary agencies, and studios, often serving as entry-level positions in the film industry. Strong analytical skills and knowledge of storytelling are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Script Coverage position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Script Coverage, you need strong analytical reading skills, a deep understanding of screenwriting principles, and an ability to succinctly evaluate scripts, typically supported by a degree in film studies, English, or related fields. Familiarity with script management software like Final Draft, tracking boards, and coverage templates is highly valued. Excellent written communication, attention to detail, and time management are key soft skills for delivering high-quality, insightful coverage on tight deadlines. These abilities are crucial for helping studios and production companies efficiently identify promising material and guide development decisions.

What does a typical day look like for someone in a Script Coverage role?

A typical day for someone providing Script Coverage involves reading and analyzing one or more scripts or screenplays, then writing detailed reports that include a summary, analysis of strengths and weaknesses, and a recommendation for development executives. You may work independently, but frequent communication with story editors, producers, and other analysts is common to ensure your coverage aligns with project goals. Deadlines can be tight, especially during pilot or development seasons, so time management and efficiency are essential. This role offers valuable exposure to the decision-making process within film and TV production, and opportunities for advancement into story editing, creative executive positions, or development roles.

Job description

*This role requires a hybrid schedule and will be based in our NYC office (Tuesday through Thursday) and work fully remotely on Mondays and Fridays each week.

The Points Guy is a trusted resource for all things travel, credit cards, rewards and loyalty programs. As a key extension of our brand, Brian Kelly's public presence plays a vital role in how we connect with audiences across media, social, and partnerships.

We are seeking a highly creative, strategic, and execution-driven Social Media & Talent Producer to shape, manage, and amplify Brian's voice across platforms. This hybrid role blends content production, influencer management, and media coordination in a fast-paced, always-on environment where timeliness, storytelling, and brand alignment are essential. You'll be responsible for both conceiving and executing content strategy in real time, often responding to breaking news and trending moments as they happen.

The Social Media & Talent Producer will proactively identify trending topics and relevant storylines, script and produce compelling video content, and manage Brian's shoot schedule to ensure efficient, high-quality production aligned with brand priorities. This is a high-visibility role that requires strong editorial instincts, polished production skills, and the ability to operate confidently in executive-facing and media-driven environments. You will own ideas from start to finish, working iteratively and moving quickly across ideation, creation and publish.

The Social Media & Talent Producer will report into the Senior Vice President of Communications and is based in our New York City office on a hybrid schedule.

What You'll Do:

  • Own and manage Brian Kelly's social content calendar, including researching and pitching timely and newsworthy topics. You'll be the driver of this calendar, not just an executor. You'll be constantly evaluating emerging opportunities and making calls on what to produce and when
  • Script, film, produce, and edit social-first video content across platforms (e.g., Instagram Reels, TikTok). This includes hands-on production work: you'll write scripts, manage shoots and edit final videos
  • Collaborate with Communications, Partnerships, Social, and Editorial teams on trending news, partnership launches, and social content strategy
  • Act as on-set producer and videographer for Brian's content shoots
  • Maintain a consistent tone, voice, and visual identity across all content
  • Track performance metrics, compile insights, and iterate content strategy accordingly. You'll be responsible for understanding what resonates and adjusting strategy in real time
  • Support breaking news coverage within the travel and points & miles space
  • Occasional domestic and international travel will be required

What We're Looking For:

  • 4-6 years of experience in media production, influencer/talent management, digital content strategy, or a related field
  • Proven experience producing and editing short-form social video content
  • Proficiency with video editing tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with social analytics tools and platform-native insights (Instagram Insights, TikTok Analytics, etc.)
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to respond quickly to emerging news cycles
  • Comfortable working independently and making decisions
  • Confident on-set presence with the ability to direct on-camera talent effectively
  • Exceptional written communication skills for scripts, captions, and briefing materials
  • Strong storytelling instincts and audience-first mindset
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Passion for travel, loyalty programs, credit cards, and consumer media is a strong plus

Compensation:

This range reflects total cash compensation, which may include base salary only or base salary plus target bonus, depending on the role. Where eligible, equity may also be offered separately and not included below. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.

  • Total Cash Compensation Range: $112,500 - $162,500 per year*

*Must live and work within a 30 mile radius of the NYC office and be willing to work a hybrid schedule (Tuesday through Thursday) and work fully remotely on Mondays and Fridays each week.

Additionally, the following benefits are provided by Red Ventures, subject to eligibility requirements.

  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Parental Bonding Benefit Program
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO): We believe time to rest and recharge is essential.  That's why we offer a generous and flexible PTO policy.  Full-time employees accrue 20 days of PTO for a full calendar year annually, with an increase to 25 days after five years of service.
