Job description

Scripps Mercy Hospital has served central and downtown San Diego since 1890 and is the oldest medical center in the county. The San Diego campus is located near the corner of 5th Avenue and Washington Street in Hillcrest.

Scripps Mercy Hospital consists of two campuses in San Diego and Chula Vista. 

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego’s campus includes the O’Toole Breast Care Center, a 24-hour emergency room that is a Level I Trauma Center, outpatient physical rehabilitation, minimally invasive robotic surgery and our childbirth unit (including a Level II neonatal intensive care unit).

Registered Nurse (RN) – Full Time
Schedule: 72 hours per 2-week pay period | 12-hour Night shifts  (including weekends)
Location: Scripps Mercy Hospital, Hillcrest

This position is eligible for New Hire and Relocation Incentives up to $7K .

Join our Emergency Services Department as a Registered Nurse (RN) at our Level I Trauma Center, Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, where the RN will provide direct patient care within the scope of practice.  With an average of 250 visits per day, this ED includes 49 beds and designated Psych and Fast Track areas.  

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, located in the heart of Hillcrest, is the county’s oldest medical center, founded in 1890. Our hospital provides a comprehensive range of services, including 24-hour emergency care, robotic surgery, prenatal services with NICU support, and outpatient rehabilitation.

Additional responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Conduct patient care assessment, planning and implementing a plan of care, and evaluating patients' progress towards expected outcomes.
  • Take primary responsibility for the patients' care as delivered by the Care Team under their supervision.
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care.

In order to remain eligible for your retention incentive the following criteria must be met:

  • Must remain in original hired FTE Status and Shift (if specified in offer letter)
  • Must remain in original department/specialty
  • Must remain in original Job Title
  • Transfers to other locations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may result in forfeiting remaining incentive bonus unless specifically noted in your offer letter.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered Nursing Degree from an Accredited School of Nursing
  • Active California RN license
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS Healthcare Provider Certifications through American Heart Association
  • 1 year of experience in adult emergency services
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate positive behaviors
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a trauma center ER
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • CEN – Certified Emergency Nursing .
