Job description

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas has served North County’s coastal communities since 1978. We’re located at Santa Fe Drive and I-5, within walking distance of a park, fitness center, grocery store, pharmacy and restaurants.

Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas’ campus includes Scripps Clinic Encinitas and an outpatient imaging center. We’re home to notable specialty programs including a 24-hour emergency room, accredited stroke care, physical rehabilitation services (including a brain injury day treatment program), our Baby Friendly birthing pavilion and a Level II neonatal intensive care unit.

This is a benefit-eligible, full-time position (72 hours every two weeks), working 12-hour night shifts (6:30pm - 7:00am) on various days and located at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas in the Medical Acute 2 South unit.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is self-motivated and committed to providing exceptional patient care. In this role you will be assisting patients with their activities of daily living, performing vital signs, and performing EKGs. This 32 bed unit hosts primarily a patient population of medical, telemetry, and stroke patients. We are looking for someone who is looking to can work efficiently and collaborate as a team.

The general duties of the Patient Care Assistant include:

  • Provides excellent service to patients as a key member of the clinical care team
  • Assists patients with personal needs and activities of daily living, collects data, and ensures the patient has a safe, organized environment
  • Assists with patient care within the scope permitted and under the direction of a clinician
  • Supports the unit with a variety of patient logistic, clerical, equipment/supply, and charge reconciliation duties

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • One year of recent experience working under the license of an licensed healthcare provider OR current enrollment or completion of Nursing Assistant training from a recognized school OR current enrollment in an RN program with completion of the second semester, including nursing fundamentals
  • Must be able to speak, read and follow instruction in English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a service aptitude
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider

 Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certifications::

  • CNA certification
  • Multiple patient care skills preferred
  • Preferred one-year acute care experience
