Job description

Midwest Eye Consultants is looking for a Scribe to join our Fort Wayne team. As a Scribe, you'll work side-by-side with our doctors and clinical team, helping document patient visits, support examinations, and keep patients moving smoothly through their care.
No two patients are the same-and no two days are exactly alike. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable healthcare experience while developing skills that can open the door to future career opportunities within our organization.
What You'll Do:
  • Accurately document patient information in the electronic health record (EHR) as directed by the doctor during examinations.
  • Assist optometrists and ophthalmologists with patient procedures.
  • Help ensure the doctor has the information needed to provide efficient, high-quality patient care.
  • Escort patients to Optical and introduce them to the Optician while reinforcing the doctor's recommendations.
  • Obtain and document patient medical histories.
  • Prepare patients for eye examinations and vision therapy.
  • Perform preliminary and ancillary vision and diagnostic testing.
  • Provide patients with appropriate instructions regarding medications, tests, and procedures.
  • Assist technicians with clinical and administrative responsibilities.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling and help maintain an efficient patient flow.
  • Communicate appropriately with patients when delays occur.
  • Answer phones and assist with appointment scheduling.
  • Maintain doctors' appointment books and assist with patient recalls.
  • Help ensure exam rooms are clean, stocked, organized, and ready for the next patient.
  • Monitor inventory of medications and supplies.

What We Need:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred:
  • Previous optometry or healthcare experience.

You don't need to know everything on day one. We're willing to teach and invest in the right person.
Who We're Looking For:
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • A strong communicator who enjoys working with people.
  • Accurate and efficient when entering information into an EHR.
  • Comfortable with keyboarding and computer-based documentation.
  • Dependable, professional, polite, and courteous.
  • Adaptable and able to stay focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player who is willing to jump in wherever help is needed.
  • Passionate about helping others and providing excellent patient care.
  • Eager to learn new skills and grow professionally.

What We Offer
  • Starting hourly wage of $15-$17 based on previous experience
  • 6.5 paid holidays per year + 2 floating holidays
  • Approximately 8 days of PTO during your first year
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, and 401(k)
  • Company-paid certification programs with opportunities for professional development and wage increases
  • Opportunities to build your skills and advance your career within the organization
