Job description

What you'll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Serve as a key resource for encouraging,ย identifyingย and documenting Scout Motors' inventions and innovations.ย 
  • Build relationships with the Engineering, Product, Design, Growth and Strategy Teams, and provide training,ย guidanceย and encouragement, toย facilitateย theย development of Scout Motors' patent and trade secret portfolios, including conducting invention mining sessions andย participatingย in the product review process.ย 
  • Conductย patentability and landscape searches and analyses to support patent filingย strategy andย process.ย ย 
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate searches, prepare analyses, andย formulate informal opinionsย on patent clearance/non-infringement.ย 
  • Monitor competitive intellectual property on an ongoing basis.ย 
  • Facilitate andย monitorย patent application preparation andย prosecution.ย 
  • Assistย withย maintainingย Scout Motors'ย patent database, includingย adding tags/keywords to disclosures and patent filings to help with generatingย relevantย reportsย for business leaders.ย 

Location & Travel Expectations:ย 

  • This role may be based out of theย Scout Motors corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC.ย 
  • This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.ย 
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the companyย from time to time.

  • Bachelor's degree inย mechanical engineering, electrical engineering,ย computer science /ย engineering,ย automotive technology,ย or related field, advanced degree preferred.ย 
  • Highly preferred admittanceย to practice and in good standing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Officeย ย 
  • Minimumย 8+ย years of relevant experience inย patent practice, automotive industry preferred.ย 
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability, including managing priorities and meeting deadlines.ย 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work closely and build relationships with domestic and international business and technical colleagues.ย 
  • Ability to manage uncertainty and novelty and to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment.ย

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $120,000.00 - $145,000.00
