JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Director of BOCES 4 Science is responsible for the oversight of the production of science kits including manufacturing, assembly, and inventory management. The Director of the BOCES 4 Science Program is also responsible for the implementation and coordination of K-12 science curriculum, instruction, and professional learning.
Essential Responsibilities:
Administrative:
  • Plan and recommend long and short-range goals and objectives for the BOCES 4 Science Program.
  • Prepare, implement, and monitor the BOCES 4 Science Program's annual budget.
  • Coordinate the sequencing and revisions of all units in the BOCES 4 Science Program.
  • Ensure efficient science kit production by evaluating and utilizing effective technological systems and software applications.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the BOCES 4 Science Program and report to Mid-West JMT BOCES administration regularly.

Supervision and Coordination:
  • Coordinate the organization and operation of the BOCES 4 Science Program.
  • Supervise all staff in performance of their responsibilities.
  • Communicate to administrators and teachers via newsletters, bulletins, email/listserves, bulletins, group meetings, etc., information about the BOCES 4 Science Program. Inform the instructional contact of each school district and other administrators of the progress on their district requests for science kits.
  • Oversee the physical plant, vehicles, operations and maintenance as needed.
  • Coordinate and oversee kit production including inventory, warehousing, kit production, materials acquisition, and evaluation and implementation of technological and data systems of technological systems.
  • Implement lean manufacturing practices such as effective software applications dealing with scheduling, shipping, and inventory.
  • Ensure all practices follow OSHA guidelines and requirements.

Community Relations:
  • Engage in marketing, advertising, and information sharing to district and BOCES representatives about BOCES 4 Science.
  • Coordinate with communications department to highlight, communicate, and share local and state-wide activities of BOCES 4 Science.

Research and Development:
  • Engage in data-driven practices, including but not limited Lean Six Sigma, to optimize kit production, management of materials, and quality processes.
  • Research, develop, and evaluate new science units that are aligned with the New York State learning standards and contiguous with the philosophy of the BOCES 4 Science Program.

Professional Knowledge and Understanding:
  • Attend local, state, and national science conventions and meetings.
  • Participate in education workshops, seminars, and courses.
  • Visit other science programs and science centers to gain knowledge of new skills, concepts, materials, and activities.
  • Submit articles to local, state, and national publications about the BOCES 4 Science Program.

Other Duties Assigned by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Certification:
Master's Degree and following certifications: New York State School Business Leader Certification and/or New York State School District Leader Certification.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years experience in school district or school business level administration.
