Instrument Electrician 

The purpose of the plant electrician is to performs construction, installation, maintenance and repairs of all plant electrical facilities, power lines, power distribution panels, HVAC equipment, all measuring, recording, and controlling instruments, and all electronic devices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for other equipment such as temperature controllers and recorders, pneumatic gas controls, draft controls, relays, voltage jacks, brushes, rectifiers, moisture controls, level controls, time checks, pyrometers, frauenthal controls, pressure transmitters
  • Installs all the components needed for these systems such as tubing, wiring, sensors, etc.
  • Work from detailed drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Wires circuits, balances loads, installs and checks a wide variety of equipment.
  • Runs power lines as directed.
  • Diagnoses faulty operation of electrical services/equipment.
  • Performs repairs, possesses wide knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and HVAC equipment to solve interrelated problems.
  • Performs work on energized lines, circuit breakers, relays, transformers carrying up to 440 volts.
  • Moves and removes wiring in safety with motor starters, removes and replaces fuses, adjusts calibration screws on substation breakers, removes and reinstalls breakers in panel.
  • Makes hot cut-over as needed.
  • Calibrated and adjusts equipment against specified standards.
  • Inspects equipment for proper operation.
  • Utilizes computer programs to enter labor and work order information.

Education/Experience:

  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • Must be a qualified journeyman electrician.
  • Strong work ethic, troubleshooting and critical thinking skills required.

The starting pay for this position is $37.22 hourly rate.  Compensation and benefits available for this position are dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
