Job description

Dental Hygienist

SNA International, a world leader in forensics, biometrics, and identity intelligence, is currently looking for a bright and experienced Dental Hygienist with a strong work ethic to join the team. SNA International's team works together in pursuit of the same cause: to build a safe and just world by empowering organizations in the use of forensics, biometrics, and identity intelligence.

The Dental Hygienist is responsible for the accounting and coordination of dental remains at the DPAA Hawaii Lab and will serve as an assistant to DPAA Odontologists in Hawaii.

***This is a 100% onsite position at the DPAA lab in Hawaii

Critical Work Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Assists odontologists with matters related to dental remains and associated casework at DPAA Lab-Hawaii (inventory, cleaning, radiograph, photography, charting, etc.)
  • Operates digital dental X-ray equipment to take dental radiographs
  • Catalogs antemortem radiographs
  • Conduct preliminary assessments of dental remains
  • Process teeth and prepare paperwork for DNA submission
  • Assists the Evidence Manager with cleaning, accessioning, and storage-related tasks of dental remains
  • Tracks case progress, creates databases, write short reports and scientific memoranda for dental remains assigned
  • Completes recurring duties independently, but refers deviations, problems, or unfamiliar situations to the supervisor for assistance
  • Occasionally travels nationally and perhaps internationally (travel anticipated to be approximately 5-10%)
  • Assist DPAA-Hawaii Odontologists with current day processing of remains
  • Protects organization's value by keeping confidential information
  • Follows all client policies and procedures
  • Completes other duties as assigned consistent with the position for which you were hired.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • B.A/B.S. or M.A/M.S. degree in dental hygiene, forensics, related field, or certified as an extended duty dental assistant.
  • A minimum of 10 years of clinical dental experience is required.
  • Some experience in forensics but not required.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and detail oriented.
  • Able to work well independently, as well as in a team environment.
  • Possess a working knowledge of dental and medical terminology and anatomy.
  • Possess strong knowledge of clinical, restorative, and prosthetic dentistry.
  • Familiar with tooth numbering systems
  • Possess strong written and communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
  • A demonstrated history of initiative and achievement
  • A demonstrated history of working independently with client and staff
  • Experience working independently with minimal direction or supervision
  • Experience supporting and anticipating client needs and demonstrating problem-solving skills
  • Experience performing tasks under tight deadlines and managing shifting priorities

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to access information using a computer for up to 4 hours at a time
  • Sitting at a desk for long periods of time
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time while retracting soft tissue/taking radiographs on current day cases
  • The individual must be capable of working under high stress and pressure of short deadlines
  • Additionally, as the workspace is an active forensic laboratory, you will be subject to the sites (and occasional smells) of skeletonized human remains as well as hearing conversations regarding deceased individuals.
