Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Histology Laboratory Assistant to join our clinical team. In this role, you will perform vital technical and clerical duties that support our pathologists and histotechnologists. You will ensure accurate tracking, safe preparation, and meticulous archiving of tissue specimens to guarantee the highest quality of patient care.
Core Responsibilities
  • Specimen Processing: Receive, verify, and log clinical tissue specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Ensure all documentation matches the labels.
  • Laboratory Operations: Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment. Change chemical reagents, clean tissue processors, and record daily temperature logs.
  • Archiving amp; Retrieval: Organize, file, and retrieve paraffin blocks and glass microscope slides in accordance with strict compliance standards.
  • Technical Assistance: Assist histotechnologists with routine slide staining, cover-slipping, and sorting specimens for pathologist review.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor, restock, and order laboratory reagents, chemicals, and general supplies.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, and CAP guidelines regarding chemical safety, biohazards, and patient confidentiality.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in biology, Chemistry, or allied health science preferred.
