Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education, and exhibition.
The Research and Evaluation department, part of Learning and Public Engagement at the Museum, is seeking a full-time Civic Science Fellow to contribute to the Museum's efforts to develop content, programming, and evaluation about civic science engagement. Their primary responsibility is to carry out a collaboratively designed project from start to finish and prepare a culminating product (e.g., a landscape analysis and communication plan, community engagement guidelines, exhibition, or public program). In addition, the Civic Science Fellow will participate in fellow-required in-person and remote learning opportunities, including member meetings, a Civic Science Fellow Convening, and Civic Science Labs and support departmental civic science efforts.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Conceptualize, develop, design, carry out, and disseminate a culminating product related to Civic Science Engagement at the Museum. Review literature, meet with stakeholders, collect feedback and pilot data, design the product/approach, collect summative data about the ways in which stakeholders receive or use the culminating product, and write for dissemination.
  • Attend and complete required work for remote and in-person learning opportunities provided by the Civic Science Fellows Program.
  • Contribute to civic science initiatives in the Research and Evaluation department by attending departmental meetings, participating in planning and data analysis, and contributing to report and grant writing.

The expected salary for the Civic Science Fellow is $70,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.
Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities.
