POSITION SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Lead Manager of Science Curriculum and directs the development and management of a series of K-12 online science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curricula. Directs and oversees a team of consultant writers to ensure that curriculum production goals are met. Production goals include meeting deadlines with a complete, quality STEM curriculum that is aligned to the given standards, inquiry in nature, and student-centered.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In collaboration with the Lead Manager of Science Curriculum and the Director of STEMscopes Science Development, develops, recommends, and implements plans for curriculum while staying within budget.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and professionally develops a team of consultants to ensure superior work performance and achievement of organizational goals and objectives.
  • Creates and develops new grade-level appropriate K-12 curricula that are aligned to national, state, or international standards.
  • Develops grade-level appropriate STEM curricula for students in public, private, and non-traditional school settings.
  • Develops grade-level appropriate STEM curricula for students in 1 to 1, blended, and traditional classroom settings.
  • Maintains various versions of K-12 science lesson documents across curricula.
  • Researches STEM best practices and ensures that these are supported in all curricula.
  • Consults with university science faculty and content experts who may serve as paid reviewers for the curriculum to ensure the scientific integrity of the curriculum materials.
  • Creates, manages, and supervises the curriculum development writing and testing/piloting process, including external contractors and support staff.
  • Plans and presents professional development sessions to demonstrate the online curriculum and attends conferences and marketing events to promote the curriculum to schools and districts.
  •  Assists the Lead Manager of Science Curriculum and the Director of STEMscopes Science Development in additional duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field
  • Master's degree preferred
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience required; 5 years preferred
  • Ability to develop and communicate a multitude of ideas when considering a challenge 
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Content knowledge in K-12 STEM, specifically science
  • Ability to set priorities, and to schedule and follow through on multiple tasks to meet strict deadlines
  • Highly proficient in the Microsoft Office suite and Google Office Suite
  • Mastery of inquiry and STEM best practices
  • Ability to organize and articulate abstract ideas into working planning documents

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Physical demands of the position will include mobility throughout the day; lifting, reaching, and carrying materials associated with the preparation, distribution, demonstration, use, and maintenance of various materials and equipment for lessons, events, and showcases.
Occasionally, more rigorous activities are associated with field experiences or other program activities.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to work during evenings and weekend hours. Must be able to travel in and outside of Houston, TX for conferences, events, showcases, and trainings.
