JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Communications Manager leads and oversees all communications and marketing functions for Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs (AFSA), directing communications and ensuring cohesive, strategic messaging across the division. This position serves as the primary liaison between AFSA and the Office of Communication and Marketing (OCM), ensuring alignment with broader institutional strategies and brand standards. The Communications Manager is responsible for developing, elevating, and expanding awareness of new and existing programs, achievements, and events. This includes guiding content strategy, supervising marketing initiatives, and ensuring that all work reflects best practices in higher education communication and data-informed decision-making. The position collaborates closely with the AFSA Executive Leadership and Leadership Teams to support strategic goals.
Responsibilities
  1. Creates, updates, and maintains AFSA web pages to effectively market and communicate strategic information to all stakeholders.
  2. Partners with the web development team in the OCM to implement UT Health Sciences web branding guidelines across the AFSA websites, staying current on new standards as they are developed.
  3. Oversees and approves the creation and design of reports, letters, emails, and other materials for AFSA; drafts, edits and produces internal and external communications, including newsletters, brochures, magazines, posters, and event flyers.
  4. Integrates and manages digital communications with Enrollment CRMs (e.g. Slate), Student Success early alert systems (e.g. Navigate), and other enterprise tools to support coordinated messaging, streamline workflows, and enhance audience engagement.
  5. Develops and edits copies that highlight achievements, awards, and programs; collaborates with offices in AFSA and the OCM to produce stories for internal and external publications.
  6. Communicates complex or technical subject matter in clear, accessible language tailored to target audiences.
  7. Serves as manager of all AFSA communications by reviewing and approving work and coordinating with the OCM.
  8. Oversees and directs communications to ensure standardization and compliance with UT System and UT Health Sciences branding and policy.
  9. Monitors and responds to conversations across platforms to increase engagement, including tagging students, parents, and media outlets as appropriate.
  10. Creates, plans, and develops communication and marketing strategies with the AFSA Executive Leadership and Leadership Teams to best promote the division.
  11. Provides administrative oversight and strategic management of the AFSA social media accounts and collaborates with the OCM.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE:
Four (4) years of marketing experience; OR Master's Degree and two (2) years of marketing experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Confident presenter with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Strong skills in writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design experience with experience in publishing workflows.
  • Proven ability to create, edit, and maintain web and digital content.
  • Knowledge of enterprise content management systems, including OmniUpdate and WordPress.
  • Understanding of effective design principles and the ability to produce engaging multimedia content.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet fast-changing deadlines while consistently delivering accurate, high-quality work with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Skilled at collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students.
  • Knowledgeable about social media platforms, trends, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 with the ability to quickly learn new software and tools.
  • Ability to offer informed recommendations and work effectively with management and team members.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends.
