SUMMARY
The Driver is responsible for driving company trucks and related equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Deliver and pick up metal, aluminum, or plastic materials and products while providing excellent customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • CDL-A: Drive combination vehicles with capacities in excess of 26,001 lbs. (roll-off, flatbed Conestoga trailers, lugger, or dry van are primarily used)
  • CDL-B: Drive commercial motor vehicles in excess of 26,001 lbs.
  • Chauffeur's license: drive 26-foot flatbed
  • Understand and ensure consistent compliance with all federal, state and local laws / regulations, and company policies / procedures regarding the FMCSA.
  • Perform upkeep on mobile equipment.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  • Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods (electronic).
  • Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
  • Consistently provides prompt and courteous service to customers.
  • Communicate to customers and coworkers in a clear and professional manner.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers and Protects materials from weather, as needed.
  • Perform daily pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections and reports any safety issues immediately.
  • Maintain company equipment inside/out in order to ensure both cleanliness and safety.
  • Must have effective communication skills in order to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must be able to interact in person with coworkers and the public.
  • Must be able to handle high stress situations.
  • Work overtime as required.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • 1 year of verifiable related driving experience
  • CDL A license (unrestricted) with an acceptable driving record and a valid medical card. (Some positions only require a Chauffeur's license or CDL-B license)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Frequently lift, move, or position materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Use limbs to operate controls, levers, and gears, such as shifting gears, to drive, position, load, and unload the truck.
  • Must be able to wear all necessary safety equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
  • Routinely work in a noisy environment.
  • Exposure to outdoor climate
  • Ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
  • Routinely exposed to moving and mechanical parts and potential exposure to electrical shock.
