FLSA Status:                           Exempt
Job Summary:            Provide psycho-educational services to students with disabilities within local public and nonpublic schools. Assists with the development of plans which enable children to attain achievement standards and independent skills..  
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The information contained in this job description is for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.  The individuals currently holding this position perform additional duties, and additional duties may be assigned.




  • Conduct diagnostic evaluations to identify students' needs, potential, and limitations by:
    • Observing in classrooms and / or social situations
    • Reviewing all pertinent school records
    • Consulting with parents and school personnel
    • Administering diagnostic instruments
    • Interpreting the results and conducting evaluation conferences
  • The School Psychologist serves in collaborating with the Educational Diagnostician to gather records, distribute information, initiate the referral process and facilitate the record review
  • Serves as a member of the multidisciplinary team for students undergoing an evaluation and coordinates resources to assure a comprehensive educational evaluation is completed.
  • Provides diagnostic information to assist students to achieve personal, academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Refers individuals to community agencies to secure medical, vocational, mental health or social services.
  • Conducts reevaluations for children eligible for special education services.
  • Provides ongoing professional development for school and community when requested.
  • Serves as consultant to school principals, parents and teachers in matters involving psychological services in the school community.
  • Completes all education reports and paperwork accurately according to regulations and procedures within the required time line.
  • Collaborates with school personnel on Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Improvement Plan (BIP) as needed
  • Collaborates in the evaluation of the academic and behavior management programs using data to recommend interventions.
  • Serves as a resource and makes recommendations to school personnel pertaining to:
    • The management of pupils in the school environment
    • Educational adjustments to meet the needs of children and services of children in special education
  • Follows and informs others of IDEA, Article 7 rules, regulations, as well as policies and procedures outlined by the building principals and Griffith Public Schools.
  • Provides building wide or individual crisis interventions when needed or requested.
  • Attends all appropriate diagnostic staff meetings at the building and district level.
  • Maintains a log of diagnostic activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required through the students' IEP needs.


Qualifications: Listed below are the minimum qualifications for this job, though an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience may be accepted.

  • Master's Degree in Educational or School Psychology with a successful school psychology internship.
  • Hold and maintain current licensure as School Psychologist in the State of Indiana
  • Knowledge in the areas of autism, emotional disorders, and behavioral intervention techniques and plans.
  • Possess a basic knowledge of special education laws, regulations and can follow developed procedures
  • Desire to continue career improvement.
