STATUS:ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Part-Time (20 hours/week)

FLSA: ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Non-Exempt (Hourly)

HOURS OF WORK: ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  4 hours/day

POSITION SUMMARY:ย The Lower School Library Assistant supports the daily administrative operations of the William Passano Library, helps students and faculty use the libraryโ€™s print and digital resources, and assists with the implementation of programmatic events.

STUDENT AND FACULTY SUPPORT


โ—ย ย  ย Assist students and teachers with readersโ€™ advisory and reference needs, including the organization and preparation of materials for specific grade-level research-based projects
โ—ย ย  ย Support librarians during instruction and check out
โ—ย ย  ย Process student and teacher holds
โ—ย ย  ย Substitute for library classes on an occasional basis

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES


โ—ย ย  ย Check-in items โ€“ examine materials for damage and/or wear; repair materials
โ—ย ย  ย Shelve materials โ€“ shift collection as needed
โ—ย ย  ย Process new items for use in collection
โ—ย ย  ย Collaborate with the Senior Library Assistant on overdue notices and lost booksย 
โ—ย ย  ย Collaborate with library staff across divisions
โ—ย ย  ย Withdraw weeded items from the online catalog - shift collection as needed
โ—ย ย  ย Assist with inventory
โ—ย ย  ย Perform other duties as assigned

ย PROGRAMMATIC SUPPORT


โ—ย ย  ย Assist the Lower School library team with the annual Book Fair
โ—ย ย  ย Assist the Senior Library Assistant with the annual Book Swap
โ—ย ย  ย Curate monthly reading recommendations for the libraryโ€™s digital platforms
โ—ย ย  ย Design thematic visual displaysย 
โ—ย ย  ย Support the implementation of reading programs

QUALIFICATIONSย 


โ—ย ย  ย Bachelorโ€™s degree
โ—ย ย  ย Comfort using technology (web applications, documents, spreadsheets, email, etc.)
โ—ย ย  ย Excellent writing and organizational skills
โ—ย ย  ย Previous library experience preferred
โ—ย ย  ย Previous experience working with elementary-age students preferred
โ—ย ย  ย Strong interpersonal communication skills appropriate for various age groups
โ—ย ย  ย Ability to handle multiple projects at once
โ—ย ย  ย Ability to work well with a team
