Job description

The Office of Admissions seeks an energetic, flexible, empathetic, and detail-oriented person for the Admissions Counselor position. This person recruits prospective students and meets enrollment goals for one or more of Oglethorpe University’s degree programs through regional events, on-campus and virtual programs, and project work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of recruitment for an assigned geographic territory
o Develop a comprehensive prospect pool in an assigned geographical territory
o Use data from our CRM to strategically schedule and participate in high school visits and college fairs
o Maintain sustained communication with all prospective students and families
o Intentionally develop and maintain strategic relationships with high school counselors
o Ensure the accuracy of data in our CRM
o Assist with and attend all on-campus events, including giving admission presentations and campus tours

Advise and consult with prospective students and families on admission to Oglethorpe
o Deliver contextually appropriate presentations and visit experiences
o Engage in intentional and continual learning about the offerings of an Oglethorpe education
o Create a warm and inclusive atmosphere on campus and when representing the university
o Answer questions thoughtfully and thoroughly for families; provide exceptional customer service


Review and evaluate applicants for admission
o Critically evaluate applicants for admission based on Oglethorpe’s institutional priorities and goals
o Follow up with students and families at all stages of the admission cycle to reach enrollment goals

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree.
• Excellent communication (verbal, written, and digital) and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Ability to work in a fluid environment, prioritize goals, and consistently meet deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check.


Preferred Qualifications
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• One or more years of full-time work experience


Additional Information:
• This is a full-time, 12-month position with extensive travel.
• A valid driver’s license and personal automobile are required.
• Working evenings and some weekends required.
• Position tasks are generally required to be performed in person. Work-from-home options may be granted at the supervisors’ discretion. Oglethorpe reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to the employee.
• Some heavy lifting may be required.
