Job description

JOB TITLE: Bus Driver (180 Days) for the 2026-2027 School Year
JOB DESCRIPTION:• Drive bus over designated route according to time schedule and transport students safely to and from school or stated location
• Comply with local, state, and federal traffic laws and regulations
• Operate VHS/DVR camera on all school buses
• Operate and monitor 2-way radio to communicate with Transportation Department
• Maintain orderly conduct of students
• Provide maximum safety for passengers while operating the bus and during the loading and unloading of students
• Must walk to back of bus after completion of each route to ensure no student is left on bus
• Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation system for student comfort
• Report any hazardous situations along the route to the appropriate Transportation Department official
• Report delays, damage and /or accidents to Transportation Department for immediate repair
• Complete student discipline reports as required
• Communicate with students, parents, community, and school officials in an appropriate manner
• Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required
• Conduct daily maintenance check on bus and bring bus to Transportation for scheduled monthly service and inspections
• Keep exterior of bus clean
• Sweep and clean inside of bus daily
• Report mechanical/equipment problems to Fleet Maintenance for repair
• Fuel bus as needed, keeping level to at least ½ tank
• Attend all Transportation meetings as required
• Adhere to all appropriate drug and alcohol tests as required
• Turn in all paperwork associated with the job as required
• Report the issuance of any traffic citation or loss of CDL immediately to Transportation
• Follows all federal, state, and local policies and laws in execution of duties
• Maintains prompt and regular attendance
• Performs other duties as assigned as related to areas of direct report
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION OR TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.• 5 years minimum driving experience
• Possess Valid Class B Georgia Commercial Drivers' License with appropriate endorsements
• Pass annual physical examination required by the State of Georgia Board of Education, including a pre-employment drug test
• Must have acceptable criminal background and fingerprint check
• Driving record must not contain any citations for driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol
• Ability to work well with students, parents, and school staff
SKILLS: Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations (as needed) in vision and communication. Ability to work without constant direction. Adheres to legal statutes, organizational rules, and community standards. Ability to work well with students, parents, and school staff. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, stoop and/or kneel. Must be able to push, pull, and/or reach overhead. Must be able to lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
