Centrally located on Interstate 94 less than 25 miles northwest of Maple Grove and 30 miles southeast of Saint Cloud,ย Monticello is home to five brick and mortar schools and two nature-based facilities serving more than 4,000 students annually.ย Monticello consistently ranks in the top 50ย school districts in the state as measured byย a number of organizations and metrics,ย and performs above the state averageย in graduation rates, test scores, and earlyย college opportunities.


Communications Coordinator & School Board Liaison

Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, the Communications Coordinator & School Board Liaison provides knowledgeable and professional support for essential communications and School Board functions to administrators, Board members, staff, and the community. This position performs communications support in an efficient and timely manner so that overall positive community relations is maintained and the District's educational objectives may be achieved. The School Board Liaison will provide support to the Superintendent and School Board to ensure the District's business and structure are implemented to School Board policy in support of the district's education objectives.
Education & Experience




  • Education and Certification Requirements:
    Required: Bachelor's degree, with preference in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Visual Arts, Interactive Media, or related field.
    Required: Valid MN driver's license without restrictions.

  • Experience:
    Preferred: Three (3) years professional communications experience required or a combination of relevant education and professional experience totaling at least five (5) years.
    Preferred: Experience in a school district setting.

Essential Duties:ย 

  • Establish and oversee the implementation of a District communication plan, including: key messages; diverse audience; goals and monitoring of accuracy and consistency of communications, including website content to enhance staff, family, and community engagement.
  • Provide direct support to the Superintendent of schools to promote accurate, timely communications with staff, families, the School Board and the community.
  • Serve as a liaison of the District to media outlets by being the first point of contact and coordinate media responses, interviews, and other media-related requests.
  • Coordinate Crisis Communications for the District, acting as a key point person in navigation of emergencies and incident response; this work includes collaboration with District Crisis Response teams on a consistent basis.
  • Develop branded content such as graphic design, videos, and publications, including District branding and style norms.
  • Attend School Board meetings and ensure proper protocols (e.g., Roberts Rules) are followed.
  • Take minutes at School Board meetings, post and distribute agendas and minutes per policy and protocol. ย 
  • Coordinate, distribute, and archive School Board meeting and workshop agendas and materials.
  • Act as the District liaison to the community's student scholarship program, including coordinating all aspects of the program and team meetings, and provide compliance and proper data management for the process.ย

Salary: $75,781. Competitive benefits package based on Teacher collective bargaining agreement.
