Job description

Baumann's Recycling Center is seeking a reliable, organized, and customer-focused Scale Attendant to join our team. This position is responsible for accurately weighing inbound and outbound loads, processing customer transactions, maintaining detailed records, and providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced recycling environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable handling cash, paperwork, and computer systems while communicating with customers, truck drivers, and office staff.

Responsibilities

  • Weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles using truck scales.
  • Verify materials being delivered or removed from the facility.
  • Create and process scale tickets accurately.
  • Collect and process customer payments, including cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Balance and reconcile cash drawer at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain accurate records and filing of scale tickets and supporting documentation.
  • Answer phones and assist customers with general inquiries.
  • Communicate with equipment operators, yard personnel, and management regarding incoming loads.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor traffic flow at the scale house to help maintain a safe and efficient operation.
  • Assist with general office duties, filing, and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Report discrepancies, customer concerns, or operational issues to management promptly.

Schedule

This position requires employees to be onsite and ready to begin work at 7:30 AM. To ensure a smooth start to the day, employees are expected to arrive approximately 15–30 minutes early to prepare their workstation, organize paperwork, review the day's priorities, and be fully ready to assist customers when the facility opens.
