Job Title: Inventory Specialist Scale House Operator

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Position Status: Full-Time

Position Description

The Inventory Specialist Scale House Operator is responsible for managing the inventory on site at the WECO/Millard Rail Yard.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Complete all scaling duties for inbound/outbound railcars and trucks in addition to scaling inventory in the yard
  • Communicate frequently with yard employees regarding inbound/outbound shipments
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and transactions for all materials stored/processed at the yard
  • Maintain accurate records for all railcars located in the yard, including tracking car switching
  • Calculate piece count/quantity for sales orders and maintain the balance to be shipped
  • Prepare and submit all necessary reporting and paperwork to the corporate office, including: railcar status reports, inbound/outbound shipment logs, material code change forms, etc.
  • Proactively manage and be prepared for anticipated incoming material and railcars
  • Submit all safety briefing reports to Safety on behalf of the yard
  • Administrative duties for the yard including answering and handling incoming phone calls appropriately, managing/ordering supplies, and maintaining a clean, well-organized work environment
  • Coordinate daily priorities and work flow with the WECO Yard Manager
  • First point of contact for visitor and handles any customer inquiries

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate’s degree in business or equivalent work experience (2 - 3 years) required
  • Previous experience in the railroad industry or tracking inventory is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Intermediate level skills in MS Outlook and MS Excel
  • Demonstrated initiative to proactively seek out work, complete tasks, and follow-up on outstanding items
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and prioritize tasks appropriately

Work Requirements

  • Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality
  • Ability to work outdoors in a rail yard environment subject to all elements and conditions as needed
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 15 - 50lbs
  • Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to: sitting, kneeling, standing, walking, bending, squatting, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shoulders
