Job description

As a distribution and receiving specialist, you will handle and process shipments and conduct daily deliveries as part of SCAD mail room operations. Mail room operations includes the prompt pickup, drop off, sorting, and delivery of United States Postal Service (USPS) mail in an assigned van to SCAD buildings. You will operate mail room software and notification systems to ensure on time deliveries, operate a forklift and pallet jack safely, as directed, and ensure your delivery vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and mechanically sound. Similarly, you will perform regular vehicle inspections and promptly report maintenance needs. Responsibilities include the supervision of work study students and the provision of excellent customer service during deliveries. You will complete these tasks by being courteous, friendly, and professional.
In this position, you will address inquiries or concerns and report issues to your supervisor. You will maintain a safe driving record, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather and road conditions. You will also maintain a professional appearance, follow all SCAD policies and procedures, and adhere to all OSHA regulations and safety practices.
Minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Able to operate a forklift and pallet jack or be trained in their effective operation
  • Able to lift 75lbs from the ground, multiple times throughout the day
  • Able to work occasional Saturdays
  • Able to pass a motor vehicle report

Preferred qualifications:
  • Prior experience with USPS

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:
  • Valid driver's license

Travel required:
  • Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
