Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Log Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of log yard equipment used in unloading, sorting, handling, and staging logs for production. This position supports mill operations by maintaining log flow, performing equipment inspections, and adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform daily pre-operational inspections of assigned equipment, including fluid levels, air systems, fuel levels, windows, hydraulic systems, lights, and safety devices.
  • Operate log yard equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with company training and operating procedures.
  • Assist with unloading, sorting, organizing, and staging logs as directed by supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and organized equipment cab and work area.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers regarding production needs and log inventory requirements.
  • Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures applicable to assigned duties.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, or safety hazards immediately to supervision.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and housekeeping duties during downtime.
  • Support production goals while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
