Job Description

Job Description The Position The Basis / Infrastructure Technical Lead is a senior technical role accountable for the operational health, delivery, and administration of Organon's SAP technical landscape, including next generation SAP platforms such as SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC), SAP Signavio, and SAP Business AI (Joule). This role reports to the ERP Architecture Lead and leads a globally diverse set of teams spanning SAP Basis, Security, SAP Development, SAP functional teams, Infrastructure, and other IT process partners, executing the landscape design, upgrade roadmap, and cloud platform direction set by Architecture across existing and new global implementations. Beyond the technical scope, the role leads people and day to day project delivery, including vendor and resource management, in close partnership with Architecture on broader budget and stakeholder decisions.

Responsibilities

Execute the SAP technical landscape strategy, implementing the architecture standards, upgrade roadmaps, and platform direction (SAP Basis, Security, HANA, NetWeaver, BTP) set by ERP Architecture, in partnership with implementation and functional teams. Support evaluation and piloting of new SAP and third‑party technologies, providing hands‑on technical findings to inform the architecture decisions and product strategy recommendations made by ERP Architecture. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Basis and Infrastructure engineers, acting as the escalation point and subject matter expert for complex issue resolution across the SAP technical stack. Administer and execute SAP system provisioning, refresh, backup / recovery, and patching automation (OS / DB / SAP Kernel) per standards set by Architecture, driving standardization and reduction of manual operational effort. Execute the SAP change and transport management process, including CHARM, and ensure landscape configuration and authorization concepts meet compliance and audit requirements. Administer cloud hosted SAP environments (SAP HEC, RISE, AWS, Azure), executing migration, sizing, and ongoing platform optimization activities in line with direction set by Architecture. Partner with SAP, hosting vendors, and peer architecture groups to keep the landscape current with ERP strategy, security patching cadence, and technology roadmap changes. Collaborate with application, security, and infrastructure teams on cross functional projects and maintenance activities, ensuring the technical architecture supports business and regulatory needs. Ensure the availability, performance, and integrity of SAP landscapes (S/4HANA, BW4, GTS, GRC, ATTP, GBT, Solution Manager, Fiori, IBP, SAC), including monitoring, performance analysis, and incident resolution. Administer SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) services, including BTP subaccounts, entitlements, connectivity (Cloud Connector, Integration Suite), and lifecycle management of BTP based extensions, in alignment with the integration strategy set by Architecture. Execute the technical rollout, sizing, and operational support of AI driven SAP capabilities across the SAP Business AI portfolio, including Joule copilots and Joule Agents, embedded machine learning in S/4HANA and IBP (e.g., demand sensing, anomaly detection), and generative AI features in SAC, including access management, data/security guardrails, and integration with the underlying SAP landscape, per direction set by Architecture and AI/Automation leadership. Implement technical governance controls for AI adoption across the landscape, covering data quality and readiness, model/agent access controls, responsible AI guardrails, and monitoring of AI feature consumption and performance, as defined by Architecture and AI/Automation governance. Support evaluation of emerging SAP AI and agentic automation capabilities (e.g., Joule Agents, BTP AI Core/AI Foundation) for extensibility use cases, providing technical feasibility input to Architecture's fit assessments versus custom or third party AI/ML integrations. Execute provisioning and data integration activities for SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC), including connectivity between S/4HANA, BW4, IBP, and BDC's unified data foundation, per the data architecture strategy set by Architecture. Execute SOX and internal controls compliance activities for the SAP technical landscape, including segregation of duties reviews, change control evidence, access recertification, and audit response for Basis, security, and infrastructure processes; partner with Internal Audit, Compliance, and control owners on remediation and continuous control monitoring. Lead the Basis/Infrastructure team's day to day operations, including vendor/contractor management, resource planning, and staff development, in coordination with the ERP Architecture Lead on budget and governance matters. Execute project and program delivery for landscape initiatives (upgrades, migrations, new platform adoption), managing scope, timeline, and risk, and coordinating with business and functional stakeholders under direction from Architecture. Support the technical onboarding and administration of SAP Signavio for process intelligence and business process management, including landscape connectivity, user provisioning, and integration with S/4HANA and IBP for process mining use cases. Stay current on the broader SAP Business AI and BTP roadmap and flag operational readiness and licensing considerations to the ERP Architecture Lead needed to adopt new generation SAP capabilities.

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field/equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience. 16+ years of hands‑on SAP Basis / Infrastructure experience, including multiple full life cycle implementations, with demonstrated experience acting as a technical lead executing architecture direction set by others. Proven experience architecting and supporting SAP S/4HANA, BW4, GTS, GRC, ATTP, GBT, Solution Manager, NetWeaver, HANA, Fiori, and BTP landscapes. Deep expertise in SAP landscape strategy, environment planning (creation, refreshes, backup, recovery), and system copy/refresh procedures (client copy, system copy, system refresh). Strong knowledge of SAP system configuration, authorization concepts, and security vulnerability management across the landscape. Demonstrated experience with cloud hosted SAP environments (SAP HEC, RISE, AWS, Azure) including migration planning and platform administration. Hands on experience with OS (Linux, Windows) and database administration (HANA), including performance analysis, monitoring, and dump/log analysis. Experience defining and driving automation for SAP hosting operations (provisioning, refresh, patching) and mentoring engineering staff on technical best practices. Excellent problem solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to lead and influence technical teams, vendors, and IT process partners. Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent initiatives, and provide staff leadership on execution of product specific technical direction set by Architecture. Working knowledge of SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) architecture, including subaccount/entitlement administration, Cloud Connector, and Integration Suite. Awareness of SAP's next generation Business AI capabilities (e.g., Joule, Joule Agents, embedded ML in S/4HANA and IBP, generative AI in SAC) and SAP Signavio, including how they integrate with and impact the core SAP technical landscape. Understanding of AI governance fundamentals, data readiness, access/security controls, and monitoring, as applied to SAP embedded AI and agentic features. Working knowledge of SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) architecture and its role as a unified data foundation across S/4HANA, BW4, and IBP for analytics and AI use cases. Practical experience supporting SOX and internal controls processes for SAP landscapes, including segregation of duties, change management evidence, access reviews, and audit/compliance engagement. Demonstrated experience leading teams or programs beyond a purely technical scope, e.g., vendor/contractor management, resource planning, or cross functional project delivery with business stakeholders.

Preferred Education, Experience & Skills

SAP roadmap administration experience: timing of upgrades, service/enhancement packs, and new module implementation. Experience with SAP Change and Transport Management strategy and tooling, including CHARM. 3+ years of dedicated OS/database administration experience. Working experience with SAP Fiori and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). Knowledge of SAP Security Authorizations and SAP SaaS systems (e.g., IBP, SAC). Familiarity with project tools and methodologies such as JIRA, Live Compare, and ServiceNow. Experience in the life sciences / pharmaceutical industry. Relevant SAP or cloud platform certifications (e.g., SAP HANA, RISE/HEC, AWS, Azure). Hands on exposure to SAP Signavio (process intelligence/BPM) and SAP Business AI capabilities (Joule, Joule Agents, embedded ML/predictive analytics in S/4HANA, IBP, or SAC) within an SAP landscape. Experience architecting BTP based integrations and extensions as part of a broader clean core / side by side extensibility strategy, including AI/ML services on BTP (AI Core, AI Foundation). Hands on experience with SAP Business Data Cloud (BDC) or comparable SAP data foundation/data fabric platforms feeding downstream analytics and AI consumption. Experience acting as a control owner or key control performer for SOX relevant IT General Controls (ITGC), including working with external/internal auditors. Track record of leading people, projects, or initiatives outside a pure technical/individual contributor scope, such as line management, PMO style project delivery, or business facing program leadership. Demonstrated ability to interact comfortably with all levels of management and staff, and to translate technical strategy into business facing communication.
