Schedule Oil Sampling Lab Interpreter
Department: Machine Division (MAC)

Description
The Schedule Oil Sampling (S.O.S) Lab Interpreter is responsible for but not limited to used oil sample test data evaluation, trend analysis, interpretation, and communication of maintenance and/or repair recommendations to customers of analytical and physical test results from data interpretation in support of the S.O.S. Program. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We are located at 5665 S. East Loop 410, San Antonio, Texas 78222.
Essential Functions
  • Performs physical testing and analysis of daily fluid samples utilizing laboratory equipment such as Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers, Gas chromatography mass spectrometry, FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy), particle counter, viscometers etc.
  • Analyzes and correlates test results with the component's metallurgical, operational, lubrication and maintenance information to assess equipment condition.
  • Interprets results, reports, and recommends to customer as to the nature of the pending failure and proper course of prevention or corrective action.
  • Analyzes equipment trends in general and develop "norms" which reflect local geographic, operating, and maintenance conditions.
  • Monitor's customer information, report files and maintains up-to-date library of interpretative information including (but not limited to) S.O.S. Newsletters, Machine Profiles, Wear Tables, and other CAT publications to increase efficiency.
  • Demonstrates and perform Quality Control checks and preventive maintenance procedures as well as troubleshoot lab instruments when needed.
  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Sound knowledge of Caterpillar construction equipment and work tools, including design, operation, and use.
  • Advanced knowledge of lab practices, procedures, equipment, and clerical techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of techniques and methods of research and data collection.
  • Strong knowledge of record keeping procedures and practices.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude to utilize various MS Office products, DBS, Intranet, and other job-related software.
  • Excellent verbal, written and communications skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and deal effectively with customers, employees, team members and management.
  • Advanced organizational skills, detail oriented and professional.
  • Ability to operate office machines and computers.
  • Ability to read, analyze, create, and interpret common business information, reports, and documents.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • At minimum, three years of job-related experience required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with additional specialized/technical training required.

Travel:
  • Travel up to 10% may be expected.

Physical Requirements:
  • This position involves extended periods in a stationary position; additionally, occasional movement inside the lab to access supplies, instruments, etc.
  • This role frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Occasionally moves or transports items weighing up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment:
  • This job is generally performed in a laboratory environment.
  • Busy laboratory environment characterized by multiple work demands.
