Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Medical Technologist to join our team supporting the DOE's Y-12 National Security Complex! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Monday - Thursday 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Responsibilities
  • Collecting blood samples (Venipuncture).
  • Handling blood and urine samples and sample processing.
  • Running calibrations, quality control samples, proficiency testing samples, and patient samples on laboratory analyzers.
  • Reviewing and interpreting lab results and enter them into electronic medical record system.
  • Performing scheduled analyzer maintenance.

Training Includes:
  • Candidate will be trained to perform vision testing, ECG, and taking vitals (blood pressure, pulse, O2 sat, temperature).
  • Candidate will be scheduled to take a NIOSH-approved Spirometry training course to become proficient in performing spirometry (pulmonary function) testing.
  • Candidate will be scheduled to take a CAOHC-approved Audiometry course to become certified in performing audiograms (hearing tests).

Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience - Associate's Degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Certification: Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Medical Technologist (also known as Medical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist).
  • Must have experience collecting blood samples.
  • Hands-on experience handling blood and urine samples and have experience with the sample processing.
  • Experience running calibrations, quality control samples, proficiency testing samples, and patient samples on laboratory analyzers.

The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation's only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
