Since 1997, Detroit Salt has supplied local and national customers with tons of rock salt and premium ice melter formulations. The fruit of this labor is apparent in the salt city 1,200 feet beneath the city of Detroit, spanning more than 1,500 acres and containing over 100 miles of underground roads. Job Summary
Detroit Salt is seeking a Reliability Manager responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance, minimizing downtime, and extend asset life. This role focuses on preventive and predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational reliability and efficiency.
Roles and Responsibilities
  • Analyzing demands for repair and improvements of site manufacturing equipment. Identifies solutions to recurring problems and proposes the best solution to avoid same breakdown of equipment and production downtime.
  • Develops an efficient strategy for equipment, collecting all relevant data and information about the maintenance process and activities. Develops a strategy allowing efficient use of the production/process equipment.
  • Supervises assorted contractors as necessary in accordance with all EHS regulations.
  • Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
  • Analyzes engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to industrial machinery and equipment design.
  • Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software to design plant equipment, facilities, and production methods.
  • Develops expense and capital projects by generating scope of work, alternatives, estimates, project papers, specifications, budgets.
  • Executes expense and capital projects by, selecting contractors, writing requests for quotes, awarding bids, overseeing contractors and internal maintenance personnel, inspecting/approving work, and closing projects.
  • Provides technical information concerning manufacturing or protecting techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations which affect long range plant and product engineering planning.
  • Complies and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment. Analyzes existing equipment to reliability and identifies with operations opportunities to improve existing systems.
  • Studies engineering and technical publications to keep abreast of technical changes and developments in industry.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of Electrical/Mechanical PM/ PdM Programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Strong electrical background
  • 5-10 year of growth potential
  • 40-to-50-hour work week

  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Recognized as a subject matter expert
  • Experience working with medium voltage systems (up to 12,470V)
  • 20+ years of relevant industry experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Mining industry experience
  • Heavy industrial environment experience
  • Experience managing mobile equipment fleets
  • Engineering background or degree

Physical Requirement
  • Must be able to climb ladders, steps, crawl, and bend regularly.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to wear proper PPE including steel toe shoes and safety glasses.
  • Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures outside year-round.
