What is a salon helper?

Salon Helpers are support staff in salons who assist hairstylists, beauticians, and other salon professionals with various tasks. Their duties typically include cleaning workstations, washing towels, sweeping floors, greeting customers, and sometimes helping with simple preparations like shampooing hair. Salon Helpers ensure the salon runs smoothly by maintaining cleanliness and organization, allowing stylists to focus on their clients. This entry-level position is a great way to gain experience in the beauty industry and can be a stepping stone to more advanced roles.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a salon helper?

To thrive as a Salon Helper, you need basic knowledge of salon hygiene, customer service, and organizational skills, typically gained through on-the-job training or entry-level experience. Strong communication, reliability, and a friendly demeanor make someone stand out in this position. These skills and qualities ensure smooth salon operations, a welcoming environment, and satisfied clients.

What are the responsibilities of a salon helper?

Salon Helpers play a vital role in keeping the salon running smoothly. Their daily responsibilities typically include cleaning and sanitizing equipment, assisting stylists by preparing workstations, managing laundry, and greeting clients. • Exclusive discounts on professional salon tools and products
  • Leadership and technical training to help you grow your skills, the team, and the salon
  • The opportunity to coach, develop, and motivate a team of stylists

  • A team environment where stylists help each other succeed
  • Consistent income you can count on - without upselling pressure, commission stress, or competition for walk-ins

Employee offerings like medical benefits and paid time off (PTO) may be available at certain locations.

What you bring to the team

To join a Great Clips salon team as a Salon Manager, you'll need:

  • A valid Cosmetology and/or Barber License (requirements vary by state/province)

  • Excellent communication skills and the desire to motivate, develop, and support a team
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage day-to-day salon operations
  • Comfort with technology and salon tools (scheduling systems, metrics, and reports)
  • A goal-oriented mindset with a focus on team performance and customer experience
  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

About Great Clips

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota by founders David Rubenzer and Steve Lemmon in 1982, a time when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service hair salons, from barbershops or at home. As a stylist and businessman, David could see that the industry was changing. Customers were looking for a hair salon service that could fit their busy lifestyles and desire for value. To be part of that change – rather than find themselves competing with it – David and Steve developed the then-radical concept of a walk-in haircare salon with weekend and evening hours, offering customers a select list of services, and providing benefits for stylists. After the founders opened several successful hair salons, Ray Barton joined David and Steve as an owner in March 1983. With Ray's help and expertise in franchising, the trio set about growing the Great Clips hair salon brand. That success continues through today.
