What is a Salesforce internship?

A Salesforce internship is a temporary position offered to students or recent graduates who want to gain practical experience working with Salesforce, a leading customer relationship management (CRM) platform. Interns typically assist with tasks such as customizing Salesforce applications, data entry, creating reports, and supporting team projects. These internships provide valuable hands-on training, exposure to real-world business processes, and opportunities to develop technical and professional skills. Completing a Salesforce internship can also improve your chances of securing a full-time job in the tech or business sector.

What types of projects or tasks does a Salesforce intern typically work on during their internship?

Salesforce interns often have the opportunity to work on real-world projects such as assisting with customizing Salesforce platforms, developing and testing new features, creating reports and dashboards, and supporting data migration efforts. Interns may collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and project managers, to solve business challenges using Salesforce solutions. This hands-on experience helps interns build technical and professional skills, while also contributing meaningful work that supports organizational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Salesforce intern, and why are they important?

To excel as a Salesforce Intern, you generally need foundational knowledge in computer science, CRM concepts, and strong analytical skills, often supported by coursework or relevant certifications like Salesforce Trailhead modules. Familiarity with Salesforce CRM, basic understanding of data management tools, and exposure to automation or reporting features are typically expected. Adaptability, effective communication, and eagerness to learn help interns stand out in collaborative and fast-evolving environments. These skills enable interns to quickly contribute to projects, support team goals, and gain hands-on experience critical for future Salesforce roles.

Inside Sales Internship - Summer 2027

Rust Automation and Controls

West Jordan, UT โ€ข On-site

$14 - $19/hr

Temporary

Job description

RUST Automation & Controls is a family-owned instrumentation and industrial automation distributor, founded in 1976 and built on the values of Integrity, Expertise, and Service. We represent leading manufacturers - including Endress+Hauser, Ashcroft, Drรคger, and ASCO - and support customers across refineries, power generation plants, mining operations, and water/wastewater treatment facilities throughout the Mountain West. This internship is a great way to get real exposure to how an industrial distributor runs, from the sales floor to the departments that keep it moving.
Position Overview
Position: Inside Sales Summer Intern 2027
Location: West Jordan, UT
We're looking for a motivated, curious intern to split their time between supporting our Inside Sales team and jumping into short-term projects with other departments (marketing, operations, field service, or IT/systems) as needs come up. This isn't a narrow, single-lane internship - it's designed for someone who wants broad exposure to how a distributor serving industrial customers actually operates day to day, and who's comfortable wearing a few different hats in the same week.
Duration is 10-12 weeks, Monday through Friday, 8-5pm
What you'll do
Inside Sales Support (primary focus):
  • Assist with preparing and following up on quotes for instrumentation used in industries like oil & gas refining, mining, and municipal water treatment
  • Help research product specs and manufacturer documentation to support the sales team's quoting and configuration work
  • Support CRM data entry and pipeline hygiene (Salesforce) so nothing falls through the cracks
  • Sit in on customer calls and vendor check-ins to learn how relationships are built and maintained

Cross-Departmental Side Projects (as they come up):
  • Take on short, well-scoped projects for other teams - for example, helping marketing organize product collateral, supporting operations with process documentation, or helping build out an internal tracking tool
  • Contribute to our tribal-knowledge initiative by helping document processes so institutional know-how doesn't walk out the door when someone leaves
  • Bring fresh eyes and a willingness to help wherever a department needs an extra set of hands for a defined project

Qualifications & Profile
  • Currently pursuing a degree in business, engineering, or a related field
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort juggling a few different priorities in the same week
  • Genuine curiosity about industrial equipment and how it's used in real plant environments - you don't need prior instrumentation experience, just a willingness to learn
  • Clear written and verbal communication - you'll be talking with both customers and internal teams
  • Proficiency with Excel/Office tools; comfort picking up new software quickly (we'll train you on Salesforce and Blue Folder)
  • A self-starter mindset - this role rewards someone who raises their hand for the next project rather than waiting to be told what's next

What you'll gain
  • Hands-on exposure to how an industrial distributor supports customers in refineries, power plants, mining sites, and water treatment facilities
  • Direct mentorship from our Inside Sales team and visibility into how quotes, orders, and customer relationships actually come together
  • A rare, broad view across multiple departments - most internships keep you in one lane; this one is built to show you several
  • Real project ownership, not just busywork - you'll leave with concrete things you built or improved
  • A genuine look at our company culture, which is a big reason our own team members choose to stay and come back

Is This You?
  • Do you have a pioneering spirit and enjoy working for a growing company with a strong culture?
  • Do you thrive in a motivated, team-oriented environment focused on customer solutions?
  • Do you enjoy solving problems and taking on challenges?
  • Do you strive to exemplify excellence in everything you do?

If you answered YES, Rust Automation & Controls would love to welcome you to our family.
