What is a Salesforce developer contract?

A Salesforce Developer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based position where a developer is hired to build, customize, or maintain applications on the Salesforce platform. Contract developers work on specific projects, such as integrating Salesforce with other systems, creating custom workflows, or developing new features using Apex, Visualforce, and Lightning components. These roles are typically time-bound and may be managed through staffing agencies or directly with companies seeking specialized Salesforce expertise. Contract work offers flexibility and exposure to a variety of industries and projects.

What does a contract Salesforce developer do?

As a contract Salesforce developer, your duties involve creating customer relationship management (CRM) software solutions for a company on a temporary or freelance basis. Your responsibilities vary depending on the type of project you work on and the needs of each client. You are often involved in application design and testing. You write code for the applications and solutions that you build using the Apex language. Since you work on an independent basis with different clients, your job involves assessing the needs of each client so that you can build the solutions and applications that they need.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract Salesforce developer?

To thrive as a Salesforce Developer on contract, you need strong proficiency in Apex, Visualforce, and Lightning components, along with a solid understanding of Salesforce architecture and experience with custom application development. Familiarity with Salesforce development tools (like Salesforce DX), version control systems (such as Git), and relevant certifications (e.g., Salesforce Platform Developer I/II) are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you deliver solutions efficiently and collaborate with clients and teams. These skills ensure that you can design, develop, and deploy tailored Salesforce solutions that meet business requirements within project timelines.

What are some common challenges faced by contract Salesforce developers?

Salesforce Developers on contract often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to new client environments, understanding existing customizations, and aligning with varying coding standards. They may also need to efficiently manage time to meet tight project deadlines and ensure seamless collaboration with remote or cross-functional teams. Effective communication and strong documentation skills are essential to ensure smooth handoffs and project continuity when the contract ends.

You'll make things happen-fast.
ZoomInfo is looking for a driven, analytical, and business-focused Business Analyst III to support the Quote to Cash value stream within the CPQ & Digital Commerce portfolio. This individual contributor role is focused on analyzing, designing, documenting, and optimizing the business processes and technology capabilities that support ZoomInfo's end-to-end commercial lifecycle - from product configuration and quoting through contracting, order management, billing, invoicing, collections, and revenue recognition.
You will work at the intersection of Sales, Deal Desk, Revenue Operations, Finance, Billing, and Engineering, translating complex Quote to Cash business needs into clear, actionable requirements for Salesforce and connected enterprise platforms. Operating within a SAFe Agile framework, you will partner closely with Product Managers, Salesforce Architects, Engineers, QA, and business stakeholders to define current-state and future-state processes, write Features and user stories, support testing and releases, and ensure delivered solutions improve operational efficiency, data quality, scalability, and revenue outcomes.
This is a high-visibility role requiring strong stakeholder management, structured problem-solving, and the ability to translate between business process needs and technical implementation details.
What You'll do:
1. Business Analysis & Process Design
  • Partner with Sales Operations, Deal Desk, Revenue Operations, Finance, Billing, Accounting, Legal, and Customer Success stakeholders to understand Quote to Cash business processes, pain points, and strategic priorities.
  • Lead requirements-gathering sessions, stakeholder interviews, workshops, and process walkthroughs to identify business needs and define solution requirements.
  • Develop and maintain current-state and future-state process maps for Quote to Cash workflows, including quoting, approvals, contracting, ordering, billing, invoicing, renewals, amendments, and cancellations.
  • Analyze process gaps, manual workarounds, data-quality issues, and operational bottlenecks; recommend scalable improvements aligned to business objectives.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional requirements, business rules, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and supporting documentation.
  • Validate requirements with subject matter experts and end users through walkthroughs, prototypes, and structured feedback sessions.
2. Salesforce CPQ & Revenue Cloud Analysis
  • Serve as a functional subject matter expert for Salesforce CPQ /Salesforce Revenue Cloud Advanced (RCA) capabilities supporting the Quote to Cash lifecycle.
  • Analyze and document requirements related to product configuration, bundles, pricing rules, discount schedules, quote templates, approval workflows, contract amendments, renewals, and order processes.
  • Partner with Product Managers, Salesforce Administrators, Architects, and Engineers to define scalable Salesforce solutions that meet business requirements and adhere to platform standards.
  • Assess the impact of proposed changes on Salesforce objects, data models, automation, security, reporting, integrations, and downstream financial processes.
  • Support the evaluation of Salesforce-native capabilities, including Flow, approval processes, Revenue Cloud functionality, and reporting, before recommending custom development or third-party solutions.
  • Maintain functional documentation for Quote to Cash capabilities, including business rules, process flows, data definitions, and system dependencies.
3. Agile Delivery & Requirements Management
  • Partner with Product Managers to refine and maintain the Quote to Cash backlog within the Agile Release Train (ART).
  • Author detailed Features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting requirements documentation in alignment with SAFe Agile standards.
  • Ensure requirements are sufficiently detailed, prioritized, testable, and ready for development before sprint or PI planning.
  • Participate actively in PI Planning, backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily standups, iteration reviews, system demos, and Inspect & Adapt sessions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and QA to clarify requirements, resolve open questions, manage scope changes, and support timely delivery.
  • Track dependencies, risks, assumptions, and decisions across Quote to Cash initiatives; escalate blockers proactively to Product Management and delivery leadership.
4. Testing, Release Readiness & Operational Support
  • Develop and execute business test scenarios, test cases, and validation plans for Salesforce CPQ, RCA, integrations, and related Quote to Cash capabilities.
  • Coordinate and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including test planning, stakeholder readiness, defect triage, retesting, and sign-off.
  • Partner with QA and Engineering to investigate defects, clarify expected behavior, prioritize fixes, and validate resolutions.
  • Support release planning and change-management activities to ensure Quote to Cash enhancements are appropriately tested, documented, communicated, and adopted.
  • Create or contribute to release notes, process documentation, training materials, and end-user communications.
  • Monitor post-release performance and user feedback to identify adoption gaps, defects, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

What you bring:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, or similar role supporting enterprise business applications.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting Quote to Cash, Lead to Cash, or related revenue operations processes in a B2B SaaS or subscription-based business environment.
  • Hands-on functional experience with Salesforce CPQ, including product configuration, bundles, pricing, discounting, approvals, quote generation, amendments, renewals, and related workflows.
  • Experience with Salesforce Revenue Cloud Advanced (RCA) or comparable Salesforce revenue lifecycle, order management, or billing capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and document complex business requirements, create process maps, write user stories, define acceptance criteria, and manage requirements through delivery.
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment, including SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban; familiarity with backlog refinement, sprint planning, PI Planning, and UAT.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce data model concepts, workflow automation, reporting, security considerations, and integration dependencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes, assess business impact, and recommend practical solutions.
