What is Salesforce Data Governance?

Salesforce Data Governance refers to the processes, policies, and standards used to ensure that the data within a Salesforce environment is accurate, secure, and compliant with organizational and regulatory requirements. It involves managing data quality, access controls, privacy, and lifecycle management. Effective data governance in Salesforce helps organizations maximize the value of their data while minimizing risks related to data breaches or non-compliance. This role often collaborates with stakeholders to define data standards, monitor data integrity, and implement best practices within the Salesforce platform.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Salesforce Data Governance professional?

To thrive as a Salesforce Data Governance professional, you need expertise in data management, data quality frameworks, and Salesforce platform administration, often supported by a relevant degree and Salesforce certifications like Salesforce Administrator or Data Architect. Familiarity with Salesforce Data Loader, Shield, Dataloader.io, and data governance tools such as Collibra or Informatica is typically required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating across teams and ensuring compliance. These capabilities are crucial for safeguarding data integrity, supporting business decision-making, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements within Salesforce environments.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Salesforce Data Governance roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Salesforce Data Governance often encounter challenges such as ensuring data quality across multiple departments, managing data access and security, and aligning data policies with business objectives. Addressing these issues typically involves collaborating closely with stakeholders to define clear data standards, regularly auditing data for accuracy, and providing ongoing training to users on best practices. Establishing cross-functional governance committees and leveraging Salesforce's built-in data management tools can also help maintain consistency and compliance throughout the organization.

But what truly sets us apart? Our people-first culture. We foster an environment where curiosity is encouraged, growth is inevitable, and every voice is heard. At Orion, you're not just part of a company-you're part of something exciting, impactful, and real.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Salesforce Data Architect to design, govern, and optimize enterprise-grade data architectures across Salesforce platforms. This role is critical to ensuring data quality, scalability, security, and analytics readiness across complex Salesforce ecosystems, including integrations with ERP, marketing, and external data sources.
You will partner closely with Solution Architects, Developers, and Client Stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust data models and integration strategies that support reporting, automation, AI readiness, and long-term platform health.
What You'll Be Doing
Data Architecture & Design

  • Define object models, relationships, field strategy, and data lifecycle management
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and alignment with Salesforce best practices
  • Lead data governance, naming conventions, and standards

Data Migration & Integration
  • Architect and oversee data migrations from legacy systems (ERP, CRM, custom databases)
  • Define strategies for data synchronization, deduplication, and master data management

Data Quality & Governance
  • Establish and enforce data quality frameworks (validation, deduplication, enrichment)
  • Partner with stakeholders on data ownership, stewardship, and compliance
  • Support regulatory and security requirements (PII, GDPR, role-based access)

Analytics, Reporting & AI Readiness
  • Design data structures optimized for Salesforce reporting, dashboards, and analytics
  • Enable downstream use cases for Einstein, AI, and advanced analytics
  • Support Data Cloud and Customer 360 initiatives where applicable

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience working with Salesforce platforms, including 3+ years in a data-focused role such as Data Architect or Senior Data Specialist
  • Strong expertise in Salesforce object modeling, schema design, security model, and data access controls, governor limits.
  • Proven experience with data migration strategies and tools, as well as supporting multi-system, enterprise-level environments
  • Hands-on experience with Salesforce integrations using REST and SOAP APIs
  • Experience with ETL and middleware tools such as MuleSoft, Boomi, Talend, or Informatica
  • Advanced SQL and data analysis skills
  • Experience handling large data volumes.
  • Knowledge of data modeling tools (ERWin, Lucidchart, etc.)
  • Strong communication and problem-solving capabilities, with professional written and spoke

Preferred Qualifications
  • Salesforce certifications such as Data Architect, Integration Architect, Platform App Builder, or equivalent
  • Experience with Salesforce Data Cloud
  • Consulting or professional services background
  • Experience integrating Salesforce with ERP platforms (NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or similar)
  • Exposure to AI, analytics, or advanced data initiatives within the Salesforce ecosystem

Why You'll Love Working Here
We take care of our people. Our benefits are designed to help you live well-inside and outside of work:
  • Competitive health coverage (medical, dental, vision)
  • Generous paid time off
  • Wellness programs and work-life flexibility
  • Community involvement + volunteer opportunities
  • Employee recognition and career development support
  • A vibrant, supportive culture where we work hard, learn constantly, and celebrate often
