What is the difference between Sales Trading Salaries vs Sales Analyst Salaries?

Work EnvironmentFast-paced trading floors, client-facing rolesOffice-based, data analysis, client support

What are the typical career progression opportunities for professionals in sales trading roles?

Professionals in sales trading often start as junior or assistant traders, supporting more senior team members while developing their market knowledge and client relationships. With experience, they can advance to senior sales trader positions, managing larger accounts and taking on more responsibility for client portfolios and strategy. Many also transition into leadership roles such as desk head or move laterally into related areas like portfolio management or risk analysis. Career progression is typically driven by performance, client acquisition, and the ability to adapt to fast-paced market conditions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales trader, and why are they important?

Success as a Sales Trader requires a strong understanding of financial markets, analytical abilities, and relevant academic credentials such as a degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with trading platforms like Bloomberg Terminal, FIX protocol, and relevant regulatory certifications (e.g., FINRA Series 7) is typically expected. Outstanding interpersonal skills, quick decision-making, and resilience under pressure help individuals excel in client-facing and rapidly changing environments. These competencies ensure effective client engagement, accurate trade execution, and compliance in high-stakes financial operations.

What are sales trading salaries?

Sales trading salaries refer to the compensation packages provided to professionals working in sales trading roles within financial institutions. These salaries typically include a base salary along with performance-based bonuses, which can be substantial depending on the individual's and firm's performance. Entry-level sales traders can expect base salaries ranging from $70,000 to $120,000 per year, while experienced professionals and those at top investment banks may earn total compensation well into the six or seven figures. Factors such as location, firm size, and market conditions can significantly influence salary levels.

Job description

Ingredient Sales & Trading
Location: Fargo, ND; Minneapolis, MN; Charleston, SC; Los Angeles, CA
Travel: ~25%
At Anchor Ingredients, our sales team doesn’t just sell ingredients—they build lasting partnerships that fuel growth and innovation across the supply chains in the food and pet food industries. We’re looking for a driven, entrepreneurial-minded salesperson/trader who is ready to outwork the competition and thrives on making deals, spotting opportunities and delivering results.

As a member of Anchor Ingredients’ sales team, you are the face of our brand. This role blends sales, trading and relationship management to drive growth and profitability across our premium ingredient portfolio—including products produced in our own facilities and sourced from trusted third-party partners. You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining partnerships with suppliers and customers, assessing risks and identifying market opportunities—and delivering a differentiated customer experience that reflects Anchor’s commitment to quality, transparency and innovation.

This is your chance to join a fast-growing, customer-focused company where you’ll have the freedom to run your book of business like an entrepreneur, while being backed by the resources of a decade old company that invests in your success.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own your business: Source, purchase and sell ingredients within your assigned product group, driving profitability and growth.
  • Build lasting partnerships: Develop strong supplier and customer relationships that create long-term value.
  • Win in the market: Stay ahead of trends, assess risk and act quickly to capture opportunities before competitors.
  • Maximize performance: Manage inventory positions, set sourcing strategies and hit financial targets.
  • Collaborate & innovate: Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver seamless service and suggest new trade opportunities, products and solutions.
  • Represent Anchor: Travel (~25%) to customer sites, trade shows and industry events to strengthen relationships and expand market presence.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience in ingredient sales, trading, sourcing or procurement within commodities, food, feed or related supply chains.
  • Strong contract negotiation skills and proven success closing profitable deals.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit—confident decision-maker who takes calculated risks.
  • Organized, adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities with minimal oversight.
  • Experience in import/export environments preferred.
  • Proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent communicator who earns trust quickly.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, market analysis and strategic decision-making.

WHY ANCHOR?

  • Uncapped earning potential: Competitive base salary plus commission structure directly tied to your performance. Your results determine your rewards.
  • Entrepreneurial freedom: Run your book of business with the independence of a trader and the backing of a strong brand.
  • Career growth: Top performers have opportunities to expand product lines, move into leadership roles and shape Anchor’s growth strategy.
  • Team culture: Work with a collaborative, high-energy team that has your back and celebrates success.
  • Market strength: Be part of a farm-to-food partner known for transparency, quality and innovation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This role is primarily office and customer-facing, with occasional visits to production facilities where PPE may be required. Travel is moderate (~25%) and includes customer meetings, site visits and industry events.
