This role is ideal for a professional experienced in commercial construction business development, client development, and project pursuit strategy-someone who understands how to identify, qualify, and win the right work in a competitive general contractor environment.
You will manage the full construction project pursuit lifecycle, from early-stage relationship building and market engagement through preconstruction alignment and contract award.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage a construction pipeline of qualified commercial projects across Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, and surrounding markets
  • Lead project pursuit strategy, including go/no-go decisions, opportunity qualification, and risk analysis
  • Drive client development with owners, developers, architects, engineers, stakeholders, and public agencies throughout New Mexico
  • Coordinate with preconstruction, estimating, and operations teams to align scope, schedule, and pricing strategy
  • Execute winning strategies for CMAR, Design-Build, and Hard Bid opportunities
  • Maintain accurate data in CRM systems, including pipeline tracking, forecasting, and reporting
  • Support proposal development, interviews, and presentation strategy to improve win rates
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of construction business development experience with a general contractor or commercial builder
  • Proven success in construction sales, project pursuit, and winning commercial work
  • Strong knowledge of preconstruction, estimating, and construction delivery methods (CMAR, Design-Build, Hard Bid)
  • Experience with pipeline management and CRM systems (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar)
  • Established relationships within Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, or the broader Southwest construction market preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Market Focus & Travel
  • Primary focus on projects within Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, and regional New Mexico markets
  • From time to time, SDV selectively pursues strategic travel opportunities across the Southwest when they align with our core markets and client relationships
Why This Role
  • Direct impact on construction growth strategy and project selection
  • Strong alignment between business development, preconstruction, and operations
  • Opportunity to build long-term client relationships and repeat business
  • Focus on profitable, executable commercial construction projects
Total Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive Compensation - Reward yourself with a life-work balance and pay that reflects your experience and impact
  • Company Vehicle & Fuel Support - Eligible roles receive access to a company vehicle and fuel card, subject to company policy and guidelines.
  • Comprehensive Health and Insurance Benefits - Employee premium and life insurance fully paid; dental, vision, wellness, and Aflac options available
  • Innovative Schedule and Work Environment - Monday through Thursday 4-10's with flexibility depending on seasonality and tenure in role
  • Generous Vacation and Time Off - Vacation, sick leave, paid holidays, parental and bereavement leave when accrued and needed
  • 401(k) Retirement Savings and Profit-Sharing Plan - 4% match on 100% gross earnings; fully vested employer match with annual bonus based on company performance
  • Professional Development Opportunities - Access to safety certifications, continuing education, and leadership development programs
