What is a sales project manager?

A sales project manager creates and implements sales strategies for a business or organization to grow its customer base and increase revenue. As a sales project manager, your responsibilities are to define the requirements for qualified sales leads, initiate and nurture customer relationships, draft sales proposals including price quotes, and help sales agents close sales to meet short-term and long-term goals. You also observe the company's sales process and identify areas for improvement.

What does a sales project manager do?

A Sales Project Manager oversees and coordinates sales projects from initiation to completion, ensuring they meet client requirements and business goals. They serve as the main point of contact between clients, sales teams, and other departments, managing timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Their role includes developing project plans, tracking progress, resolving issues, and ensuring successful project delivery. Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sales project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sales Project Manager, you need expertise in sales strategy, project management, and client relationship building, often supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Job description

Company Overview:

Lightspeed is the leading provider of cloud-based software for dealerships, serving the Powersport, Marine, RV, Trailer, and Golf Car industries adding hundreds of dealerships to the Lightspeed community each year.

Lightspeedโ€™s Dealer Management Solution (DMS) enables dealerships to optimize their end-to-end business operations, including Sales, Parts, Service, Rentals, Payments, Accounting, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). When implemented into their daily operations, Lightspeed helps dealers increase their profitability by selling more units, service, and parts, all while creating a more streamlined experience for customers.

Lightspeed is the most complete and integrated DMS in the industry with over 500 integrations with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), aftermarket parts and accessory distributors and dozens of other software tools that a dealership may use to run their business. Uniquely designed by dealers for dealers, and refined over the past 4 decades, Lightspeed empowers over 4,500+ dealers across North America with the tools and technology they need to manage their dealerships.

The Lightspeed Project Manager owns the end-to-end SaaS onboarding and implementation journey for new and expanding customers. Working cross-functionally with Sales, Customer Success, and Product, you will guide dealerships through every stage of the subscription lifecycleโ€”from pre-launch configuration and data migration to go-live and post-implementation optimization. You are a trusted advisor who translates complex SaaS capabilities into tangible business outcomes for our dealer partners.

This is a hybrid position that works in the office 2 days per week.

What Youโ€™ll Do

SaaS Implementation & Onboarding

  • Lead structured onboarding projects for new SaaS subscribers, managing scope, timeline, and deliverables across pre-launch, go-live, and post-launch phases.
  • Configure and customize the DMS platform to align with each dealershipโ€™s workflows, integrations, and subscription tier.
  • Conduct data migration planning and verification to ensure a seamless transition from legacy systems to the Lightspeed SaaS environment.
  • Run verification sessions to confirm client understanding of platform functionality and validate configuration accuracy before go-live.

Project Operations

  • Manage concurrent implementation projects across multiple accounts using project management tools, maintaining accurate status, milestones, and risk logs.
  • Monitor and maintain personal project backlogs; prepare and distribute regular implementation status reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Document customer configurations and implementation decisions to support long-term account health and smooth handoffs.

What You Should Have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing SaaS implementation, onboarding, or customer success projects in a B2B environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Comfort working with cloud-based platforms, CRMs, and project management tools (e.g., Salesforce, Jira, Asana, or similar).
  • Availability to work periodic weekends and after-hours during critical go-live windows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP Certification or equivalent project management credential.
  • Experience in SaaS metrics, subscription lifecycle management, or recurring revenue environments.
  • Accounting degree or equivalent experience (beneficial for supporting dealership financial workflows).
  • Familiarity with dealership management systems, automotive retail, or powersports industries.
