Job Description
Under the direction of the CEO, the Fitness and Membership Director manages all aspects of the Fitness Department's activities for the Idaho Falls Family YMCA including management and maintenance of the fitness center, health and wellbeing programs and events, recruitment and retention of members, plus hiring and training front desk staff and fitness instructors. Supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience in customer service preferred.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • CPR/First Aid certification within 30 days of hire date.

Essential Functions
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs front desk and fitness staff and volunteers as needed. Regularly evaluates staff performance and develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Arranges and/pr provides staff training as needed.
  • Implements membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.
  • Develops and monitors budgets to meet financial objectives. Annually reviews programs and fee structure and modifies as needed to optimize operations.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in interactions with existing and potential members and with the community. Coordinates program registration and marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Group Fitness, Sports, Childcare/School Age, and Camp Directors.
  • Administration of all aspects of any third-party or insurance membership programs.
  • Evaluates fitness equipment needs, researches, and makes recommendations and necessary purchases through and approved Purchase Order by CEO. Ensure proper use of equipment and enforce proper usage procedures.
  • Ensures timely and thorough cleanliness, sanitation, maintenance and repair of member facilities and equipment, with emphasis placed on an effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Compiles program and membership statistics. Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and member and program participation.
  • Assists in fund-raising activities and special events.
  • Create schedules for front desk and fitness staff and post as needed. Ensure that all shifts are covered.
  • Provide accurate information about all YMCA programs, membership, and policies, etc. and cross-promote when appropriate.
  • Attend YMCA trainings as assigned by supervisor.
