Job description

About this search

Vessel Advisors is a national financial-leadership firm that helps growing companies build and strengthen their finance and accounting teams - from fractional CFO and controller support to permanent executive search. We have been exclusively retained by our client to help build their leadership team and are managing this search on their behalf. Our client's identity is kept confidential at this stage and is shared with candidates as the process advances.

About our client

Our client is an established and profitable consumer-products company with a thriving e-commerce business, based in the San Fernando Valley. They are growing, and they are building the finance function to support what is next.

The opportunity

A hands-on Controller role with genuine runway. You will own the entire accounting function for a fast-moving, multichannel product business - and partner directly with leadership as a true business partner, not just a scorekeeper. We are looking for a proactive controller who sees what others miss, brings it forward before being asked, and has the confidence to advise and challenge.

What you'll own

  • All accounting operations - cash across every channel (marketplace/Amazon settlements, credit card, ACH, wire), reconciliations, AR, collections, and credit/terms approval.
  • The full month-end close and accurate, timely financial statements.
  • E-commerce / DTC accounting - marketplace and payment-processor reconciliation, chargebacks, multi-state sales-tax/nexus, returns reserves, and channel margin.
  • Inventory and COGS accounting; daily key-indicator reporting that drives decisions.
  • Internal controls and accounting policies within the ERP; the banking relationship.

What you bring

  • 7+ years in accounting, including a Controller or senior accounting-leadership role.
  • E-commerce / DTC / consumer-products accounting experience - strongly preferred.
  • NetSuite experience and inventory/COGS fluency; multi-state sales tax a plus.
  • Manufacturing or product-operations accounting (inventory, costing) is a plus - and something we are glad to develop in the right person.
  • A proactive, "consulting" style - secure, mature, and willing to challenge.
  • Strong GAAP and advanced Excel. CPA not required.

Location & compensation

  • Fully on-site in Chatsworth, CA - easily commutable from Northridge, Woodland Hills, Van Nuys, and Simi Valley.
  • $155,000-$170,000 per year, depending on experience.

Our client is an equal opportunity employer.

Requirements

  • 7+ years in accounting, including a Controller or senior accounting-leadership role.
  • E-commerce, DTC, or consumer-products accounting experience - strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on ownership of full-cycle month-end close and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with marketplace/payment-processor reconciliation, inventory, and COGS.
  • Multi-state sales tax / nexus experience - a plus.
  • NetSuite experience - strongly preferred.
  • Manufacturing or product-operations accounting - a plus, and something we are glad to develop in the right person.
  • Proactive, mature, and confident - comfortable advising and challenging leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and advanced Excel.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Able to work on-site in Chatsworth, CA.
