Position Summary

The Sales Manager is responsible for leading the dealership’s new and used vehicle sales operations, driving revenue growth, managing the sales team, and ensuring exceptional guest experience throughout the sales process. This role oversees daily sales activities, performance tracking, inventory strategy, and compliance with dealership and manufacturer standards. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with proven automotive sales management experience and a focus on profitability, training, and guest satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the new and used vehicle sales departments. 
  • Lead, coach, and develop sales associates to achieve individual and team sales goals. 
  • Conduct daily sales meetings to review performance, goals, and strategy. 
  • Monitor sales activity, CRM usage, lead follow-up, and conversion rates. 
  • Ensure adherence to dealership sales processes from lead generation to vehicle delivery. 
  • Work closely with Finance & Insurance to maximize deal profitability and compliance. 
  • Oversee inventory presentation, pricing strategy, and vehicle merchandising. 
  • Analyze sales reports, KPIs, and market trends to adjust sales strategies. 
  • Handle escalated guest concerns and ensure timely resolution. 
  • Assist in hiring, training, and onboarding new sales staff. 
  • Maintain high standards of guest satisfaction and dealership professionalism. 
  • Collaborate with General Manager and other departments to meet dealership objectives. 
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines, dealership policies, and legal requirements. 
  • Drive dealership initiatives to increase sales volume, gross profit, and guest retention. 
  • Support marketing and promotional efforts to generate showroom traffic and leads. 


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team management abilities. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and closing skills. 
  • Strong understanding of automotive retail sales processes. 
  • Ability to analyze financial and performance data. 
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and dealership management tools. 
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills. 
  • Ability to motivate teams in a fast-paced, results-driven environment. 
  • High level of professionalism and guest service orientation. 

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field preferred. 
  • Minimum of 5–8 years of automotive sales experience required. 
  • Prior experience as a Sales Manager, Assistant Sales Manager, or Desk Manager required. 
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales and profitability targets. 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout showroom and lot. 
  • Ability to sit for extended periods during meetings and administrative tasks. 
  • Ability to drive and operate vehicles for demonstrations and evaluations. 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–50 pounds occasionally. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically. 

Work Environment

Fast-paced automotive dealership sales environment with frequent interaction among guests, sales staff, management, and vendors. Work includes indoor showroom leadership responsibilities and outdoor vehicle inventory oversight, with moderate noise levels and consistent performance expectations driven by sales targets and deadlines. Occasional extended hours and weekend availability are required.
