Job Description Summary
The Dean of Students provides strategic leadership for student conduct, care, advocacy, and crisis response efforts that promote student success, well-being, and holistic development consistent with Saint Leo University's mission and core values. This role partners closely with campus stakeholders to foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive community that upholds accountability, integrity, respect, and personal development.
Job Description
Duties and Tasks:
  • Provide strategic support to the Vice President of Student Affairs on division and University-wide policy development and strategic planning initiatives aligned with Saint Leo University's mission and values
  • Create, implement, and manage policies, procedures, and regulations related to student affairs, student conduct, and residential living
  • Lead and oversee the student conduct process, including investigations, hearings, sanctions, appeals, and maintenance of conduct records for all campus and online students
  • Serve as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator, partnering with the Title IX Coordinator on trainings, intake, supportive measures, investigations, and resolution of reports of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and related discrimination, and ensuring student conduct processes align with Title IX requirements
  • Annually review, update, and administer the Student Code of Conduct and Guide to Residential Living to ensure clarity, fairness, and educational outcomes
  • Chair and oversee the CARE Team to coordinate early intervention, case management, and holistic student support for students experiencing academic, personal, behavioral, or mental health concerns
  • Serve as the institutional liaison to the Benfica Program, fostering collaboration and alignment between program goals and Saint Leo's student success and mission-driven initiatives
  • Provide supervision and strategic oversight of Dining Services in partnership with campus and auxiliary partners to enhance the student experience, sense of belonging, and community-building through inclusive and engaging dining programs
  • Collaborate with campus partners to design proactive outreach, education, and prevention programs that promote student well-being, accountability, and community standards
  • Partner with Academic Affairs, Campus Ministry, Counseling Services, Residence Life, Athletics, Campus Safety, and other units to ensure coordinated support for students
  • Educate students on institutional policies, student rights and responsibilities, and expectations for community living rooted in respect, integrity, and responsibility
  • Promote compliance with applicable laws and regulations including FERPA, ADA, Title IX, Clery Act, HIPAA (as applicable), and Student Right to Know requirements
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory changes and best practices related to student conduct, behavioral intervention, and crisis response
  • Participate in University-wide committees and initiatives that advance student success, community standards, and institutional priorities
  • Provide leadership in planning and implementing collaborative programs that strengthen student engagement, belonging, and retention
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate professional, graduate, and student staff in alignment with Saint Leo's commitment to excellence, care, and development
  • Support assessment efforts and utilize data to improve student support services, conduct outcomes, and CARE Team effectiveness

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Title IX, the Clery Act, FERPA, ADA and Section 504, and other laws and regulations governing student conduct, student rights, and campus safety in higher education.
  • Knowledge of best practices in student conduct administration, behavioral intervention and threat assessment, restorative practices, and crisis response in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to use conduct and case management systems and related technology to manage caseload, document cases accurately, and safeguard confidential student records.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and to make sound judgments and decisions, often under time pressure and in emotionally sensitive circumstances.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build trust with students, families, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Ability to supervise and develop professional, graduate, and student staff and to lead cross-functional teams such as the CARE Team.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (higher education administration, counseling, college student personnel, psychology, social work, law, etc.) required.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, including direct experience with student conduct, Title IX or behavioral intervention/case management, and supervision of professional staff.
  • Demonstrated experience responding to student crises, including participation in an on-call or after-hours response rotation.
